Product Name: HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

  • I press the power button.
  • Computer powers up.
  • I see the Windows 8.1 logo and the doting thingy that goes in a circle.
  • After a minute or so, when the password screen is supposed to show up it simply goes blank (black).

Please help and thank you.

Hey BatBoy,

There is few things you can do to eliminate and start troubleshooting.

First thing, it's not super common but sometimes a screen backlight goes out. Try shining a flashlight against the screen just to make sure it's not the screen,

or even better test it with a monitor from another computer.

It also could be either a RAM issue, HDD issue, or just plain old Windows problem. Are you familiar with testing RAM or HDD?
