Hello kind folks,

Recently I upgraded from Windows Xp to Windows 7 and I have a problem with high CPU usage.
I will try to make this post as more understandable as I can.

I've been using windows Xp on my mashine for more than 7 years, so i was thinking that i should upgrade to Windows 7. Since I haven't learned how to drive a car yet, I asked my father if he could take my mashine to a friend that has a pc repair shop, and if he could do whatever is needed to upgrade my mashine because i will probably do something wrong.
After a few days when i came back home i saw my pc in my room. I took it and pluged everything in it, i pressed the power button hoping that I will se Windows 7 welcome screen.
Instead of that I saw " A disk read error has occured press crtl+alt+del to restart". I restarted it several times as it said and it somehow booted up.
When desktop showed up I saw Nod eset smart security icon on it, and i thought "They installed me antivirus, thats really nice".
Then Nod eset showed a notification saying if i would buy it or activate free trial. I activated free trial and after maybe an hour, my Mashine started kinda lagging
e.g. When i pres start menu button, start menu will pop up after a second where before it would pop up isnantly, Folders will take more time to open.
So my father took it back, and they wete figuring out what it caused that disk read error and slow performance.|
next day when i got home my father was sitting by my pc and it was not even responding to anything. He asked me what i was doing yesterday or if  anything suspicious hapened,

I said that eset asked me to activate free trial. He talked with that guy and they said that i downloaded a virus from somwhere, but i was not downloading anything that night.
So I sat down in my chair, turned of my pc, booted it up in safe mode with networking, unistalled Avast disabled google update, that got my cpu usage to 50%,
Then i downloaded Malwarebytes, AdwCleaner and hitaman pro from here, scaned couple of times with each of these programs.
malwarebytes foudn nothing while Adw cleaner found couple of conduits and HitmanPro found A toon of tracking cookies and couple of malwares.
Now my cpu usage is 5% when idle and 100% when open anything and i don't know why, i basicvly tried everything but nothing works.
Earlier it was 100% when idle but now its a bit better.

If any of you out there reading this has any solution or advice for this problem i would galdly appriciate it.

Thanks in advance :)

Could be one of the svchost.exe.

That particular process has Windows Update inside.

If you disable Windows Update the CPU will be quite but your system will be vulnerable.

FWIW:  One of the byproducts of the Windows Update issues encountered by some members...may manifest itself with Windows Update continuously trying to update, using more RAM in the process.  Stopping or disabling Windows Update will ameliorate those situations but it won't necessarily cure the WU issues.

master_srbin, Also realize that most XP Machines will not run all that well with Windows 7.  Then you have the Updates issue, were some IT Techs won't Install all the Updates because it takes to long or they just don't know how.  What I mean by "don't know how" is that there are Update issues with Windows 7 especially with a new Clean Install.  Certain Updates need to be in Place before Installing the Bulk of them.  Then it may stick again needing further assistance to get it going again.  Some Techs haven't learned the fixes yet and the cost to you would be more than you would want to pay.  You could buy a new pc for what someone would charge to spend 3 hours minimum doing updates on a new install.  And what Louis said, that won't fix the issue but the pc may work that way.

I urge you to read and follow the instructions provided below.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

Go to Piriform's website, and download the free version on the left.  Click Download from Piriform.com (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.

After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.

Once inside Speccy, it will look similar to this (with your computer's specifications, of course):

post-33068-0-86653600-1480692866_thumb.j

Now, at the top, click File > Publish Snapshot.

Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard

Now, once you are back in the forum topic you are posting in, click the ADD REPLY or REPLY TO THIS TOPIC button. Right-click in the empty space of the Reply box and click Paste. Then, click Add Reply below the Reply box.

Appears to me that your CPU is overheating.  The motherboard temp is fine, it's just the CPU with the excessive temperature.

I see nothing that could indicate possible malware...other than the fact that you have Bit Torrent installed.  Nothing reflects excessive RAM usage.

I used to have that processor...it's probably time to either replace it or put fresh thermal paste on it.

Clean up:

Heat Sink Fins

Fan

Re-apply Thermal Paste

And add some RAM you should be good to go, accept for diagnosing whether or not the Updates all have been done.  Some don't worry about all the Updates, but I like the idea of getting all the Security Updates.

Hopefully it's just years of dust in the Heat Sink Fins.

Remember, if it doesn't work well with Windows 7 you can always install a Free Linux Operation System.
