A few weeks ago the touchpad on my fairly new ASUS K501UX laptop stopped responding to multi touch. This happened after a Windows update, but that may have been coincidence. I've done some research, and this appears to be related to the program "ASUS Smart Gesture" requiring an update. The problem is, I cannot get this to update and it's getting really frustrating. When I try to download the new version for the ASUS site for Windows 10, it tells me it cannot install because another version is already installed. That version CANNOT be uninstalled, because it always returns the error of a missing file "C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ASUS Smart Gesture\pre_all.bat" and at this point the installer freezes and the only way to stop it is to force end the task. I've tried everything I can think of including:
1) Repair the program (which is successful), and then try to uninstall. Oddly repairing the program brought up a UAC dialog that only had a close button... I disabled UAC and it worked.
2) Create a blank file called "pre_all.bat" in the appropriate folder. This causes the un-installation to proceed, but then a windows 10 error pops up saying "this app can't run on your PC" and the installer freezes again.
3) Uninstall the "ASUS Smart Gesture" mouse from the device manager, and let Windows install the generic "HID Compliant Device" driver, and retry the above steps.
I have called ASUS support, who where completely useless and told me I needed to send the computer in for repairs.
Any ideas on how I can force remove this POS software?
