For free linux games... I think the best one I've come across is Xonotic. 0.A.D is okay... but its been in the works forever now. Never heard of freecol. Might have to give it a look.

No problem! I'm usually pretty good with shooters. I'm pretty terrible at xontotic for some reason though. There are some custom maps were you get a grappling hook and can zip around at light speed shooting people. Really hard to get the hang of, haha.
