Hello everyone! I've recently got these sudden crashes and BSoDs on my PC and decided to ask for help.

All of them are stop f4 errors, and sometimes I've even crashed without a blue screen, leading to a reset or to just nothing (I have to power it off myself)

Chkdsk has run automatically already after some of these crashes, occasionally fixing some stuff. I have crashed more particularly while running Steam, but after the last BSoD I had I've begun to doubt whether it's related (I crashed immediately after logging into my user)

I can't really suspect whether this is my HDD failing, I just bought it 2 months ago after my previous one failed (with similar crashes to what I'm having now though, except that previously even the minidumps wouldn't be generated)

Please help me, I have backed up already.

Best regards

If the system has pirated software, please be aware that we may not be able to fix it (as the hacks that were done to activate it will cause the OS to behave differently than we expect it to). If that's the case, our efforts to help may just waste your time. Secondly, the forum rules prohibit assisting with pirated software - so the topic would be closed if that is the case.

Only 180 Windows Update hotfixes installed.  Most systems with SP1 have 350-400 or more.  Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).
The actual number is not important.  Rather it's important that you checked manually, installed any available updates, and didn't experience any errors when checking or updating.

This unknown device is disabled:

Not Available    ACPI\PNP0A0A\2&DABA3FF&1    This device is disabled.

I would suggest enabling it, then doing research to determine what it is.
Once you find out, please install the drivers for it.

You may get some clues about it from this Google search:  https://www.google.com/search?q=ACPI\PNP0A0A&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

I have seen HDD's fail straight out of the box, so it'd be wrong to just assume it can't be at fault.
I'd suggest starting with these free hardware diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html

Please run ALL of the tests, and let us know the results when you're done.

In the event that all the tests pass, please post back here with the results and then run Driver Verifier according to these instructions:  http://www.carrona.org/verifier.html

Hello again! Sorry for taking so long, my finals have started this week and have kept me extremely busy

I have followed your instructions and have attempted to update windows. However Windows Update seems to get stuck at checking for updates and I've been unable to get past this (it has been stuck at this for hours at times)

I ran the hardware diagnostics for seagate HDD for windows found within that link, SMART, short and long generic tests passed.

I will proceed to try memtest and driver verifier as soon as possible now.

On a side note, I remembered something that happened a few months ago, at that time I noticed that using my DVD reader would trigger an extremely similar crash where the system would just stop responding and similarly lead to a BSoD or a plain black screen. I have removed this device from the power source and I even tried the same port on the HDD. It did not boot the 2 times I attempted to start the PC. I switched then to another one and have not crashed since.

I can't think yet of this being the cause however since I did not make use of the DVD reader when I crashed.

Windows 7 has update problems (and I'm not a Windows Update expert).

You may want to post in the Windows 7 forums for help with Windows Updates

Also, this post from CKing123 may help:  https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/625369/high-cpu-usage-and-endless-windows-update/?p=4075499

Even though you may not be using the DVD, it's driver is loaded in memory and may be affecting things.

Switching the device may have fixed things - so keep an eye on it "just in case".

Good luck!

Hello again, I'm finally done with all exam related stuff, sorry for being away so long. Here's the list of stuff I've done
  • As for windows update, I've got it working again but because of the new bundles microsoft offers I've been reluctant to update (I fear they may include telemetry)
  • I ran 2 passes of memtest before I decided to head off to sleep 2 days ago (I didn't want to leave it doing that overnight, if you believe I need to run more passes I'll do it though)
  • 2 days ago I had a BSoD while playing a game (the VIDEO_DRIVER_INIT_FAILURE one). I don't know what to make out of this. I updated NVIDIA drivers because of it
  • I spent a while figuring out how to make a USB drive boot windows 7 recovery (as I got rid of DVD earlier) and managed to get it working so I tried driver verifier for a while. This was after the 12/29/2016 4:46:27 PM crash I believe.(I could be wrong about this, my bad, but all of the rest were during driver verifier)
Other events of relevance include my HDD sometimes acting strange in resource monitor. For about 1 or 2 minutes, the graph would show 100% Highest Active Time with no Disk I/O (during this whole period my PC was unresponsive, and I couldn't open any new programs.) If it didn't stop doing this by suddenly showing Disk I/O readings eventually the graph for C: disappeared and then the system crashed. This leads me to think of HDD failure.
I also had KERNEL_INPAGE_DATA_ERROR crash that generated no minidump so I don't know more about it. (Before I could screenshot it the PC had reset)

Do you think temperature could affect my HDD? or could it be something with the cables from the power source?
I've collected the minidumps with the sysnative app
Thank you in advance.

Picking and choosing updates to install is fraught with danger.  If you choose not to install the wrong one - it may cause problems with your system.

In thsi case the memory dumps seem to suggest that hcmon.sys is having a problem.

This is a driver related to your VMware USB monitor

I would suggest uninstalling VMWare and testing the system to see if the BSOD's continue.

If you still have your old XBox USB wireless controller installed, please uninstall it and physically remove it from your system

The old driver (xusb21.sys) is known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems.  Unfortunately, if this is the cause, there are no updates for this driver - so the only recourse is to either do without it, or purchase a newer controller with the newer xusb22.sys driver

If the BSOD's continue after this, please run Driver Verifeir according to these instructions:  http://www.carrona.org/verifier.html

Hello again. I uninstalled the drivers that seemed to have problems and nothing had gone wrong until today. I am posting from my phone because I am unable to get my PC to run consistently right now. It began by crashing as soon as I made it past logging in with several CRITICAL OBJECT TERMINATION even in safe mode and now I can't even get it to boot. The last BSoD was called process1 initialization failed. Windows startup repair has tried to launch many times now but it can't find the problem. When opening a cmd with advanced tools from startup repair I noticed that when using diskpart to list the disks it didn't find anything. I'm gonna be trying to obtain the minidumps as soon as possible.
On a side note when I turn on my pc sometimes the BIOS splash screen gets skipped and it goes straight to trying to boot windows

I did manage to try verifier, the first time it crashed but the second time it didn't and disabled it to see if I could continue booting without problems

I want to add something but I can't edit my post so here goes:

After managing to collect the dumps with the sysnative tool I noticed my malwarebytes had gone from premium to free. I uninstalled it and shut down the PC. After I turned it on, the system began a CHKDSK before I could make it into the login screen. Here's how it looked like if it may help:

http://pastebin.com/a4kx10YJ

As for malwarebytes I tried reinstalling it but it remained free so for now I've just left it there.

I then used the PC for a while and figured I'd try playing some game as well which ended in a KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR crash which generated a minidump this time.

Today I have had no problems so for now I've enabled verifier again.

What you are describing sounds like a hardware problem.
Start with these free hardware diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html

Then, if they ALL pass, try this procedure:  http://www.carrona.org/strpdown.html

Please uninstall the program associated with the windrvr6.sys driver

It is most likely part of WinDriver or Alohabob USB Bridge Cable Driver

This is just a guess on my part, and the driver isn't present in the latest memory dump.

Well, 2 days ago windows stopped booting completely, it would never go past the f8 screen as even loading safe mode would crash (It didn't even reach classpnp.sys)
I tried hardware tools again, this time using seagate tools for DOS using an usb(the first time was the windows one, figured it'd be the same)
Memtest passed 3 times with no errors.
Seagate tools completed a short and long test with no error the first time. I had my doubts so I tried the long test again and 3 minutes in an error popped up and the test failed, saying that the drive is not responding to commands.
Addiotionally, I tried booting the dvd drive on the sata ports successfully so I don't think they're at fault.
The HDD is the one to blame I guess unless you think that's not yet enough. Really appreciate the help you have given me thus far, you have all my thanks!

The HDD is a likely problem - but please realize that this could also be a motherboard problem (or even could be bad cables.

Cables are easier and cheaper to replace than a hard drive (and if you purchase them from a shop that allows returns, you can even get your money back)

Then try another hard drive.  You can install Windows without activating it to see how it works.  Again, if you don't have a spare hard drive, see about purchasing one from a shop that allows returns for your money back.

I tried changing sata cables initially, even tried some old red ones but the problems would eventually occur.
Since I got the dvd drive to boot I tried to reinstall windows to the drive, it failed everytime and upon using shift+f10 and diskpart sometimes the drive wasn't even listed. Tried the installation using usb aswell
Afterwards I installed windows to a ssd and it ran for about 10 hours without issue. Doesn't seem to be the motherboard. What else could I try to really make sure of this?

?possibly a bad DVD drive? I'm just guessing at this point.

Beyond that, try the hardware stripdown procedure to help isolate it:  http://www.carrona.org/strpdown.html
