.zzzzz randsomeware found on a PC and NAS (synology 213+)

HI there,

 

Yesterday I received a note from a colleague of mine who accidentally clicked on a file which had been sent to him as an attachment to an email. On his pc he has two fixed network connections to a NAS with loads of photos. You can already guess it: randsomeware problems. Also automatically on the NAS. More than 49,000 photos and many powerpoints and documents have become inaccessible. Many files have got  the extension zzzzz and others have been changed into htm pages. What did we do? We re-imaged the pc, we immediately deleted the NAS from the network and switched it off. But unfortunately the damage had already been done. Does anyone have an idea as to how we could repair these files again? Is there already a tool for this?

A search on google hasn't had any results so far.

Possible it's Locky or new CrySis. You need upload ransomware note and (or) encrypted file here

Any files that are encrypted with Dharma Ransomware (a new variant of CrySiS) will have an .[<email>].dharma, .[<email>].wallet or .<email>.zzzzz extension appended to the end of the encrypted data filename and leave files (ransom notes) named README.txt, README.jpg as explained here.

The .zzzzz variant is a spoof of Locky Ransomware but the original filename is not renamed like the real Locky...see here.

Locky encrypted files will be renamed with random alpha-numerical characters and have the .zzzzz extension appended to the end of the encrypted data filename in the following format...(i.e. A65091F1B14A911F0DD0E81ED3029F08..zzzzz)...as explained here.

Follow the instructions provided by thyrex to confirm.

If confirmed as Dharma, then post in the Dharma ransomware Support Topic I referred you to in your other topic yesterday.

If it is Locky then you can refer to the Locky Ransomware (Zepto) Support and Help Topic - _HELP_instructions.html.

Rather than have everyone with individual topics, it would be best (and more manageable for staff) if you posted any more questions, comments or requests for assistance in one of the above support topic discussions...they include experiences by experts, a variety of IT consultants, end users and company reps who have been affected by ransomware infections. To avoid unnecessary confusion, this topic is closed.
