Internet Explorer 11 keeps opening windows

So I somehow contracted some malware on the internet. I looked online and I downloaded malwarebytes, and used the free trial. It seemed that I was able to remove all the malware from my computer. However, when I restarted my computer, internet explorer began to open window after window. It constantly keeps opening itself. This is the url which each window tries to connect to:




Every time I reboot, malwarebytes says the same few files are harmful, and I remove them, but it doesn't do anything, and they're back the next boot. I suspect that it finds said files suspicious but it's not actually the source of the virus, because I downloaded several other programs that say my system is clean. Here is a list of the programs I downloaded to try to fix the problem:


Kaspersky TDSSKiller, Rkill, HitmanPro, Malwarebytes AdwCleaner,(as well as malwarebytes itself).


I got the windows to stop popping up by disabling internet explorer 11 in my control panel, but there are several programs that apparently need that enabled to function, so that's not an option for me really. I tried to uninstall internet explorer, but it doesnt show up in the updates part of programs and features in control panel. I can't delete the internet explorer folder because it's protected. And keep in mind, I did all of this with internet explorer constantly popping up every two seconds. I am so exhausted of this stupid issue and I need help. Please let me know what I can do.

This sounds like something I haven't seen in more than a year....poweliks. Eset poweliks tool takes less than 2 minutes to download and run.

If that isn't the problem then follow the directions to start a new topic in the Malware Removal Forum.


download Powelikscleaner (by ESET) and save it to your Desktop.

  • Double-click ESETPoweliksCleaner.exe to start the tool.
  • Read the terms of the End-user license agreement and click Agree if you agree to them.
  • The tool will run automatically. If the cleaner finds a Poweliks infection, press the Y key on your keyboard to remove it.
  • If Poweliks was detected "Win32/Poweliks was successfully removed from your system" will be displayed. Press any key to exit the tool and reboot your PC.
  • Please let me know if it was poweliks.


If it wasn't poweliks:

Please follow the instructions in the Malware Removal and Log Section Preparation Guide starting at Step 6.

  • If you cannot complete a step, then skip it and continue with the next.
  • In Step 6 there are instructions for downloading and running FRST which will create two logs.

When you have done that, post your logs in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs forum, NOT here, for assistance by the Malware Response Team.

Start a new topic, give it a relevant title and post your log(s) along with a brief description of your problem, a summary of any anti-malware tools you have used and a summary of any steps that you have performed on your own. If you cannot produce any of the required logs...start the new topic anyway. Explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happened when you tried to create them. A member of the Malware Removal Team will walk you through, step by step, on how to clean your computer.

After doing this, please reply back in this thread with a link to the new topic so we can close this one.

Now that your log is properly posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a Malware Removal Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.
From this point on the Malware Removal Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.
Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the Malware Removal Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the Malware Removal Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another MRL Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.
The current wait time is 1 - 3 days and ALL logs are answered.
If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.
