Use both Firefox & Chrome browsers on both a Windows 10 Home Dell XPS PC and MSI laptop.

Haven't use Chrome since recently installing KIS v. 17.0.0.611 b.

Just tried to open most current version of Chrome and it just won't open... until I completely Exited KIS. Then no issues with Chrome (no issues with Firefox and KIS).

Chrome is an Allowed application in KIS..fully Trusted...firewall all good..deleted it in KIS to be recognized again..Same issue.

Anyone come across this issue?

Thanks.

Yes. Both MBAM Premium and MBAE .
Actually was wondering if they might be part of the problem, but assumed it was KIS as the problem ended with KIS shut down.

How is MBAE involved?

Thanks for the quick response.

Hi:

There are several, recent reports at both Malwarebytes forum and KL forum about some sort of new problem with MBAE, KIS and Chrome (and even other browsers).

Affected users report different versions of KIS (2016 MR0, 2016 MR1, 2017 MR0), different versions of Windows (7 and 10) and different browsers (Chrome, Fx, IE).

There does not seem to be anything in common among the reports except MBAE.

Malwarebytes staff members seem to be aware, but there has been no official word about a cause or a fix.

Naturally, forum mods at KL forum recommend disabling/uninstalling MBAE (this does seem to resolve the issue).

I am on KIS2016 (not 2017) under both Win10 (1511) and Win7 (both 64-bit) and have NO issues with my browsers (Fx and IE 11), despite running both MBAM Premium and MBAE Premium.

And, for at least one user reporting the issue at Malwarebytes forum, the problem appeared to have spontaneously resolved on its own.

So it's clearly not a universal issue affecting all users.

I have no idea what's going on*.

With the long holiday weekend in the US, it may be several more days before anyone from the MBAE team at Malwarebytes can formally address the problem.

HTH,

MM

*Malwarebytes recently announced public beta testing of their new product (curiously named Malwarebytes Malwarebytes 3.0 -- they dropped the "Anti-Malware" moniker).  It contains both the MBAE *and* MBARW-beta modules.  It is being marketed as an "AV replacement" (whatever that means).  Perhaps the 3rd-party AV vendors have begun to treat the new product as an incompatible competitor, rather than as a complementary anti-malware product?? (There have been other, new issues with both Symantec and MS security products, too.)

Reply very much appreciated!

Strange results.

1) It appears that only when KIS and MBAE are running simultaneously will Chrome be blocked.

Shut either off and Chrome has no issues.

2) Uninstalled/reinstalled KIS, MBAM-P and MBAE on both PC & laptop

Now, on PC, there are no issues with Chrome when both KIS & MBAE are running together...BUT on the laptop the issue remains.....

Thanks for the 'heads up' and links re: Malwarebytes.

Hi:

It *is* Sunday of a long holiday weekend in the US, so forum traffic is light.
But I don't see m/any new reports of the issue.
To the contrary, a few folks at least at the MBAE forum report that the problem was resolved within the past several hours after a KIS update.
I have no idea if there was a "fix" or if it's a coincidence.

If you continue to have issues, I suggest reporting them at the MBAE forum >>HERE<<.
Before posting there, you may want to first read this pinned topic >>HERE<< and to collect the usual requested logs (MBAE logs (zipped) and FRST.txt and Addition.txt from FRST).
That will expedite the process when the Malwarebytes staff gets back to the forum/office.

MBAE has been uncharacteristically unstable/buggy in the past several weeks. That's unfortunate, as the technology is being rolled into version 3 of their flagship anti-malware product.

With any luck, they will get things smoothed out before they ship the new product as an RTM build.

Cheers,
MM

MM - Well, just as you noted earlier,  that a user reported in the the Malwarebytes forum - the problem appeared to have spontaneously resolved on its own...it happened here as well.

Thanks for sharing all the information above and for the links! Was totally clueless.
