For some months I have been getting a popup about thankssearch. Malwarebytes tried to remove it without success. Until now I have been complacent about it for a variety of reasons:  (a) I was not advised it was a serious issue (B) the popup is from Malwarebytes saying it has blocked its attempts to contact a website © I repeatedly run Malwarebytes and Norton Security (d) I have a new computer and new OS and was not expecting it to follow me around personally (e) it only manifests in one of several browsers I use, namely Maxthon (which has been my default).

However, I recently carried out a search out of curiosity and (unlike a previous occasion) found a lot of information about it including a long complex article about its removal. Unfortunately this is well 'over my head' ---- hence I am here seeking advice.

Yes, I will try to at least make a start on this in next few days. I have been (and still am) immersed elsewhere in Bleeping trying to resolve some basic issues --- not able to set or change default apps, no links to websites working, component store corrupted.

I hope what is copied below is what you asked for.  Rogue Killer detected 9 items and deleted 4 or 5 of them.  The 'thanksearch' notification still pops up when I open the Maxthon browser.

Lets see what we can find in the Registry.

Please run the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool. Enter thankssearch in the Search Box.
Click the Search Registry button, post the content of the Search.txt file in your next reply.

Farbar found nothing for me to send. It just kept searching endlessly. Finally had to kill it with Task Manager.

For the first time the Malwarebytes notification re thanksearch has remained on the screen long enough for a screenshot. I have it on the clipboard and desktop but (as frequently happens) I have not got this site's pecular system for dealing with Copy / Paste to allow me to paste it here. I wish Bleeping could use a different procedure (as other forums do.) So instead I have listed all the info displays below:

Malwarebytes

Malicious Website Blocked

pic.thanksearch.com

IP 50.97.45.3

Port 2118
