I am an escapee from the main from business back in the1970's. I started in computers in 1958,
Univac, St. Paul, Minn, Production control , Air conditioning system for the last tube computer, Majored in Math and programed with punched paper tape. Basic programming language, punched cards. Binary, 8 bits, no bytes at that time.
Entered the main frame industry as a system software specialist, compilers, BAL, ,Cobol, Fortrtan, modems, Time shared systems, Huge disk drives (2.5 MB on 14" platters), DRUMS, Mag Cards
Migrated to the mini industry, DEC, Wang, DG, TI (bigger disk drives(Multiple 14" platters, 80 MB/drive)
The guy that owned DEC proclaimed "computers will never be used in homes."
Moved into micro systems. bought, built and sold them.
Now I'm a organic farmer/ fence builder trying to get my computer and cell phone to work. Fighting viruses, bugs, printers, dysfunctional software, sticky keyboards, vultures and scams.
