Hello
Over the past couple of weeks my computer will go to a blue screen with a spinning curser occasionally. Usually if the screen has been put into saver mode ( not sleep ) but screen turns off and than try to wake it. Or when switching users. This may happen once a day and nothing specific triggers it.
Computer originally had Win Vista which I did a clean install of Win 7. Now I updated to Win 10 when it first became available.
Any ideas?
I need to shut computer off at tower and than it restarts fine. No error codes or reports

Thanks

Seems I have an issue bigger than I thought. Was unable to get to Windows update. I uninstalled Classic Shell but than couldn't access start menu or any other side menu. If I right click on the lower left start menu I do get a list. I re downloaded Classic Shell, searched for recovery and was able to get to Windows update which is up to date. However I still cannot get to the original Windows start menu which is an option in Classic Shell.

Do I do a recovery to repair any files?

Thanks

Make sure to install drivers from your computer or device manufacturer website not from Windows Update.

You can execute Sfc  /Scannow command to repair Corrupted or missing windows system files.

System File Checker (Sfc.exe)

Didn't find anything. "Did not find any integrity violation"

I did update my graphics driver, But cannot still access the Win 10 start menu even with uninstalling Classic Shell. Put Classic Shell back in. So I'll see if the display goes out again. Wait and see

Thanks

You can repair Start Menu by re-installing Cortana and other apps follow my instruction at below link.

Make sure to execute these powershell command while Classic Shell has been uninstalled.

Actually once I delete Classic Shell I don't think Ill be able to get to the command prompt. Any ideas before I delete Classic Shell??

I just tried the keyboard shortcut which does work so I'll delete Classic Shell and give it a go

Make sure Windows Firewall service is started and set to Automatic startup.
You can open the Service Manager by typing Services.msc into Command Prompt.

Right now I'm in a pickle. Nothing was working so I tried safe mode to see if I had better luck. Now it wants my admin password but I always sign in with a pin. It won't allow me into msconfig. I can get to automatic repair but under advanced options ( where I chose safe mode with network) I am locked out of my user name. I did a restore which didn't work so now I'm kind of stuck. I can get into other user names but not mine. I'm the only admin

What kind of error you get when you try to login to your user account?
What have you changed or install before login issue started?
Are you only having issue login to your account from Safe Mode?

I am stuck in safe mode but cannot get into my user name as I don't remember my full password. I always sign in with a 4 digit pin
I can access the 3 other user accounts but it needs my own for permission
If I go and do a recovery ( if I even can ) will it revert back to win 7 or keep win 10?
Although I think it will want my password.
Would you know if the password is computer specific or is it the same password for the hotmail account??
Tom
