Will Windows 8 work on a Dell Inspiron 1721?

Hi i was wondering if i could upgrade Windows XP Professional to Windows 8 Pro 32-bit on my Dell Inspiron 1721 here is my System Specs

 

  • RAM : 1.5 GB
  • Processor:   AMD64 Turion Turbo 
  • OS: Windows XP Professional
  • Graphics: ATI Radeon X1250

Will it run Smoothly on my Dell Inspiron 1721 or will it run Crappy and Slow ?

It will run better if you can increase the amount of RAM from your present 1.5 GB to 4GB (2 x 2GB) which, according to the manual, is the maximum your computer will support. You can find the manual at the below URL and the relevant page in the specs is p178.

And if you are thinking of going to Win 8 you would be at least as well going to Win 8.1.

What are you using on your computer software wise?

Because I can suggest you give linux a try.

Linux is a free operating system that is easy to use (well most of them) and can do the same thing windows can for the most part (though gaming is a bit sad on it but you can get Microsoft word working on it with some effort though it has its own office software)

 

And i see you did that one topic yet never replied to us in the linux section.

Download the Windows 8 upgrade assistant. This will tell you if the computer is capable of running Windows 8

It will also tell if there is a specific piece of hardware that needs to be changed/updated.
