Anything I can run to see if I have some hidden malware on my PC?  PC is just running slowly and sometimes applications hang and I can't Cntrl + Alt + Del to close out of the program.  I have to do a manual reboot of the PC and then things run well for a little bit, and then eventually start to hang again.

Could use some advice

Let's have a bit of a look FlimFlam, run a few scans. See if we can find anything.

29bgcgg.jpg  Please download AdwCleaner and save to your Desktop.

  • Right click and "Run as Administrator"
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • After the scan has finished, click Clean and ok the reboot
  • When complete, your machine will restart and a log file will appear
  • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

2zh1g08.jpg  Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

  • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Right click and "Run as Administrator".
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • On completion a log will open, note the saved JRT.txt on your desktop to copy into your reply

malwarebytes_icon_mini_by_linux_rules-d9  Please download and install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware.

  • Run the program.

I am not 100% sure how accurate this is.  The program hung at the last stage of the Heuristic Analysis.  I had to cancel it out.  I was not able to "remove" the 13 threats that came up but I was able to Quarantine them (if that matters).

Hi FlimFlam,

Could you please provide the most recent MBAM log, the one you added was from 2014.

Please uninstall these programs

DriverPack Notifier
Spybot - Search & Destroy
WinUtilities Free Disk Defragmenter 1.4

SafeZone Stable 1.48.2066.120

I highly recommend, and you may also wish to unistall these McAfee products.

McAfee Security Scan Plus
MCShield ::Anti-Malware Tool::

If you did that, please install an anti-virus now. My current picks of the available free solutions are Avira and BitDefender. Though other popular solutions include Sophos and Avast.

2evtder.jpg  Please install CCleaner and run a scan and clean of temp files.

34hammr.jpg Download Security Check from here or here and save it to your Desktop.

  • Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
  • Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • please copy and paste the log into your reply.

If prompted by your firewall allow DIG.exe
If you receive UNSUPPORTED OPERATING SYSTEM! ABORTED! message restart computer and Security Check should run

149nkg7.jpg Please download Farbar Service Scanner and run it

  • Please check all of the boxes then click Scan
  • It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please copy and paste the log into your reply.

2eeagd2.jpg Please download RogueKiller and run it

  • Click Scan and then Scan again to start the application
  • Please be patient the scan can take quite some time
  • When it completes close the browser pop up.
  • click Open Report then Open TXT
  • Copy and paste the output into your reply.

Please include in your reply, copy and paste without spoilers.

  • current MBAM log
  • Security Check log
  • FSS log
  • RogueKiller report

Ok a few things:
MalWare Bytes keeps freezing on me so I can't complete the scan or get any report log.
I uninstalled SafeZone Stable 1.48.2066.120 but I believe it is actually part of Avast.  So I actually had to uninstall Avast.  However, Avast is one of the anti-virus softwares you recommend.
I removed all the programs you recommended.
I also used CCleaner

Hi FlimFlam,

SafeZone Stable is a poorly rated browser by Avast, not Avast antivirus. I'm glad you were successful removing it. :)

I'm sick at home today. I don't want to make a mistake in giving you instructions, I appreciate your patience until I'm back in the saddle.

I will ask someone else to help you in my absence.

John

After looking the scan results and your having problems with MBAM....I think it best for you to start a new topic in the Malware Removal Forum.

Please follow the instructions in the Malware Removal and Log Section Preparation Guide starting at Step 6.

  • If you cannot complete a step, then skip it and continue with the next.
  • In Step 6 there are instructions for downloading and running FRST which will create two logs.

When you have done that, post your logs in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs forum, NOT here, for assistance by the Malware Response Team.

Start a new topic, give it a relevant title and post your log(s) along with a brief description of your problem, a summary of any anti-malware tools you have used and a summary of any steps that you have performed on your own. If you cannot produce any of the required logs...start the new topic anyway. Explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happened when you tried to create them. A member of the Malware Removal Team will walk you through, step by step, on how to clean your computer.

After doing this, please reply back in this thread with a link to the new topic so we can close this one.

DO NOT bump your new topic. Wait for a response from one of the Team Members.
