Hi.

I have a three year old Medion all in one PC running windows 10.

My DVD RW Drive has always worked fine playing CD's, ripping CD's and playing commercial DVD's.

Recently a DVD I was watching stopped and wouldn't restart. Since then the drive will not recognise DVD's. It makes promising noises then gives up. 'No disc in drive E' is then displayed. It still plays and rips CD's.

I have cleaned the lens several times with a Laser Lens Cleaner disc. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the drive.

It is still not working. Any ideas what I can do?

Do they break after a while and need replacing?

Thank you.

If only one DVD is not playing then issue is with the DVD not CD/DVD optical drive.

This can happen. DVD drives have two lasers of different wavelength for CD and DVD discs, the DVD section can fail and the CD one keep going. The simplest way to confirm is to see if the drive can read and boot from a bootable DVD, such as a Windows installation DVD or Linux Live DVD. This eliminates other uncertainties like the operation of Windows. If it cannot read DVDs to boot, that would confirm the DVD section of the drive has stopped working.

If you want to replace either purchase same module of CD/DVD optical drive or purchase one fits into your laptop.
