Instead of screwing around, I think the quickest way to fix this is just to uninstall, and delete all personal settings.  Then reinstall.  Please report back to let us know if this fixed it.

Hello there,

If I am understanding your situation correctly... :)

If you click the little home icon next to the address bar, does it open google.com? It should since it's your homepage. Let's try doing this:

You can tell Chrome to open to any webpage.

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More.
  3. Click Settings. (If you're using a Chromebook, click "Show advanced settings" at the bottom of the page.)
  4. Under "On startup," click Open a specific page or set of pages.
  5. Click Set pages.
  6. Enter the web address of the page you want to see when you open Chrome.
  7. Click OK.

from Set your homepage and startup page. Of course set the "specific page" to google.com

What happens?

Sorry to hear that. :( Since you just freshly reinstalled Chrome, was the problem already present before reinstalling Chrome? Anyway, this may be caused by malware — there are some cases online that seem to point to that...

But please do try this:

:step1: Press the Windows Key + E at the same time.
:step2: Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe
:step3: Right click on chrome.exe, select Send To, and click Desktop (create shortcut).
:step4: There will be a new shortcut on your desktop. Double click on it. Make sure you're double-clicking on the new shortcut.

What happens?

I'm glad it did! You're welcome. Don't forget to delete the old shortcut from your desktop. :)
