I have a HP Compaq 8000 elite small form factor.

HP 3646h Mobo

3.0 ghz Intel Dual core Processor

I'll power it down and yet, I still hear the HDD engaging periodically. The sound is like the initial start up sound for a HDD.

It clicks, then it's quiet... 5 - 10 mins later.. it clicks and then silence... and it just keeps repeating.

I've checked the bios to make sure it's not trying to restart from one of the other pereferials like a USB port or DVD drive.

Can anyone help?

It's got me stumped...

Hi :welcome: to BleepingComputer

I think is important to post also the Operating System installed on the machine.

When you hear the HDD is the PSU fan on the back also spinning?

Is it powered down or "asleep/hibernate" ?  Bios may have a drive setting in those modes to keep the heads poised for a return to active.  Some drive mfgrs have special settings for them too.
