Twitter, Spotify and Reddit, and a huge swath of other websites were down or screwed up this morning. This was happening as hackers unleashed a large distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack on the servers of Dyn, a major DNS host. It’s probably safe to assume that the two situations are related.

Well that would explain why my companies application we use is hardly working..... At least Reddit is working right now! Gotta look for the bright spots.

@Gorbulan

Yeah that is why I was affected. The only thing I noticed it on was the web based app for work. That was it though. But apparently it was a pretty big issue.

Leave it to Gizmodo it put up a flashy title though. "Half the internet is down.... well really only east coast of the US"

@bwv848

I believe it was only specific sites. If you didn't visit them then you wouldn't have noticed. They also may have been functioning fine even during the attack so in that case you wouldn't have known either.

Good point. :) And now West Coast now under web attack as East Coast recovers?

Yup lol. Gizmodo seems to do that quite often.

It's Gizmodo. They, like most "news" sites, are just there to push page views.

I wasn't on the internet much this morning, but a bit earlier I heard about this.
