Hi can anyone help. I have Windows 10 and for some reason my recycle bin has just stopped working, cannot get to the properties, cannot empty it seems corrupted. tried  rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin   but I am not sure the system recognises it as a recycle bin anymore. Anyidea how to delete it and get windows to create a new bin or fix this one?

Did you run command prompt as administrator when you did rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin ?

Have you tried running a system file check ? (also as admin)

If I right click and ask for PROPERTIES I get an ERROR which reads

DESKTOP

The properties for this item and not available So I think it is not even recognised as a recycle bin

It may be an idea to use an elevated cmd prompt and run dism, be online and prepared for a wait (especially at 20%)

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

It was certainly not accidental.
Most probably is changed Desktop Local Group Policy and/or registry data  is changed or damaged.
To give any advice at all, it would be necessary to know what you did before it happened. Ie, maybe  You did changes in settings, maybe changed or cleaned registry, were removed some of the programs or apps, etc.

Open Control Panel --> Display --> Personalization --> Change Desktop Icons clear the check mark for the Recycle Bin and click Apply button then again place a check mark for Recycle Bin and click Apply button. Check to see issue resolved.

Is it true that You were using the Advanced System Cleaner in Windows 10?

So tell me, is it true
1. You have installed CCleaner
2. Do You have installed Advanced System Care (yes/no)
3. Do You have some other software, which have icon on on $Recycle.Bin right -click context menu
Then I can send You the correct registry data for Recycle Bin
Maybe You use GlaryUtilities, then some things can be do a little easier?

I forgot to ask, is this 64-bit or 32-bit?

Open the Command Prompt by holding down the BxVxp04.png + X keys and select the option “Command Prompt (Admin)” from the menu.

Execute below commands one at time and for each command you have typed press Enter key.

CD  /

attrib -h -s $Recycle.Bin

Here is Recycle Bin Registry data for x64 pc, if CCleaner is installed.

Copy it to Notepad and save with name Recyclebin.reg (NB! All Files (*.*) and Unicode), double click on saved file, OK, OK and if UAC enabled, then also Yes or OK (don't remember). You may need to restart. If then also not working, is the problem more difficult.

Thank You. Of course not, I simply have lived in computers long time. They are for me like the second home.

Please go to the first post and change the heading - simply add [Solved]
Then everyone can see, that there is no more problems with it.
