My PC is quite old and only has VGA output, but I have a projector that only accepts HDMI input (it has a VGA port but I think its broken or something..).

I see some adapters on ebay for around 1 euro but as I can tell they are all for the reverse of what I want to do, for people with old VGA projectors and new PCs/Laptops without VGA output.

Anyone know if there is a cheap way I could connect this up?

Something Like this - http://www.alltech.com.au/en/cables-adaptors-/271-vga-to-hdmi-female-to-female-video-adapter-cable-converter-with-audio-hd-1080p.html

I know its a AU Product , but wherever you are located should be easy to source out.

You,ll still need 3 > 5 Mtr Hdmi Cable to the Projector.

This is $30:00 Total AU - Adapter and Cable.

Or EBay Connectors here http://www.ebay.com/bhp/vga-to-hdmi-converter

Hmm, am seeing a few but why are they so much more expensive than the reverse options? :( From HDMI to VGA is like 1USD from China, but VGA to HDMI are from 10USD :(

VGA does some hand shaking with the newer display units but the older VGA ports didn't.  The VGA to HDMI adapter are often hit or miss and I've even seen some setups that had to have a boot sequence of devices to get it to play nice.
