Thought you would all want to know.

Well, except for any Giants fans.

Winterland, dancing around like a happy dork this morning.

I am glad you are happy - always a worthwhile condition.

But who are Cubs, who are Giants, and what is ICYMI ?

Greetings!

ICYMI means "In case you missed it".

The Cubs and the Giants are two baseball teams, the Giants from San Francisco and the Cubs being from my own city of Chicago (I can't say I pay attention to sports though, whoops...)

Greets Chris, looks like Sasschary got to this before I did - I was stuck at work, trying to figure out how to get a GUI on Fedora Server 24.

I've been a Cubs fan since my days of going to college in Chicago.

It's also a big deal for some, mostly because of the length of time since the Cubs have even been in the World Series.

They haven't made an appearance since 1945 (when they lost) and haven't actually won the World Series since 1908!

Next up, the West Coast L. A. Dodgers.

I love this time of year.

As I said, I am glad you are both happy !  And thanks for the explanations.

Sport is not my thing - I got inoculated against it at school - but baseball. that's like high speed cricket isn't it ?

I'm not super familiar with cricket, but I believe it would be similar to cricket, based on the Googling I just did.

If you've seen the movie Back to the Future, it said that the Cubs would win the world series in 2015, which, alas, did not come true. But maybe they were only a year off in their prediction...

Was that out of the back of your hand?

OK. I was gently having a little fun - I do know what baseball is !

However i genuinely did not know who the Cubs or Giants are or that they played baseball. Why should I ?  If I said the Jam Tarts beat the Pars you would probably be just as uninformed.

(Jam Tarts = Heart of Midlothian, Pars = Dunfermline Athletic. Two Scottish soccer teams)

That was a little joke for cricket fans. In cricket terminology a googly is a ball that looks, to the the batsman, as though it will spin from leg side to off side, but because it is delivered from the back of the hand it goes the other way. Unless you are brought up with cricket, it is a very complicated game.

Fair enough.

And you're right, I wouldn't know a Jam Tart from a Par, but if you were happy for a Win, I'd be happy for you also.

Btw, the Cubs won again last night!

Getting closer & closer to the World Series.

Now the Cubs really have won.

The Chicago Cubs have won Major League Baseball's World Series, ending the longest title drought in the game.
