Hi,

I am working on removing what Norton labels as Trojan.Kotver! I have ran a scan with Norton and it will occasionally pick it up, but can't remove it.

I ran the Norton Power Eraser, but it finds nothing and doesn't help with the removal.

I've ran adwcleaner, malwarebytes, and frst64 per this post http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/623186/trojankotvergm2/ I have also attached my logs.

If you all could help this would be great!

It it helps it appears that the infected file always repopulates in C:\users\username\appdata\local and usually under the folder 2081a1 and creates a shortcut file that can be deleted, but repopulates.

Thanks so much for any assistance!

HI nasdaq, unfortunately we have system restore turned off for the networked pc's and we cannot turn it on.

Would you still like me to try this script or do you need to change it somehow?

Edit: I have been working with Symantec on a solution for another pc and the newest manual removal at norton.com/fixkotver seemed to have resolved the issue with the alphanumeric file repopulating with the trojan. (last line of your fix.txt)

Location to manual fix: norton.com/fixkotver

Just thought I would pass that along as I know this board has suddenly become inundated with this Trojan.

Thanks.

The creation of the folder came possibly by this command in a shorcut.

Shortcut: C:\Users\llaadm\AppData\Local\2081a1\d97961.lnk -> C:\Users\llaadm\AppData\Local\2081a1\e467f6.bat (No File)

My fix was to take care of it.

If the folder in bold is still present delete it.
C:\Users\llaadm\AppData\Local\2081a1

Is this voluntarily or do you have a problem enabling it.?

Do not run my fix just now.

Hi Nasdaq,

It's group policy so while I could enable it if you'd like locally on the pc just to run the fix it's not preferred by our network admin.

The creation of the folder came possibly by this command in a shorcut.

Shortcut: C:\Users\llaadm\AppData\Local\2081a1\d97961.lnk -> C:\Users\llaadm\AppData\Local\2081a1\e467f6.bat (No File)

My fix was to take care of it.

C:\Users\llaadm\AppData\Local\2081a1

As for the batch file. It's funny you can delete it, but not the .lnk file in the same folder (not picked up by SEP). However if you delete the background.js file which creates the .bat in the first place and kill the explorer process described in the Symantec fix it allows you to delete both the batch and .lnk file and .js file.

On the note of deleting it I have done so and rebooted with it not repopulating across the different users profiles so I think we are good.

Sorry about the quote mess. I may be good at IT, but forum quoting is sorely lacking :)
