West Palm Beach Florida is going to get a good blast of Hurricane Matthew and that is where I live.  Haven't kept track (due to health) of how Haiti fared.  I heard 8 Deaths so far.  I know they got hit pretty good as did Jamaica, just hope it don't get worse.  It's very stressful if you are disabled or sick as I am, never thought to much of it when I was healthy.  Hope I don't loose Internet to long and make it through the other side.

I came back to Florida when CAT5 Hurricane Andrew hit to help out, you can't imagine how devestating it was to people and property.  It was so strong it took out street signs and traffic lights.  There were lot's of workers from out of town and it was quite hard for them to find addresses to do work.  There were little Shanty Towns popping up full of workers from other areas, camping in their tents.  You could see for miles over the Everglades because ALL trees were broken off at about 10ft. high - LEVELED - all of them.  There were big boats and Semi Trailers all over the place on their sides far away from where they  were being stored.  There were some Trailer Parks with only one Trailer still standing, miracle! the rest were leveled...completely...nothing left but the straps that once held it to the ground.

See you on the other side, pcpunk

@pcpunk

You are facing such uncertainty right now, and I'm sure it's overwhelming and frightening.  Let's hope  there is no "massive destruction" and the hurricane will stay over warm waters and calm down (how's that for positive thinking.)

Do your best to stay safe and I hope you can keep your internet connection so you can keep us updated.

Hang in there!

I would contact your county emergency number. I believe they have evacuation facilities for the disabled.

Hey pcpunk,

How well I remember 'ANDREW'. I was job transferred to help out and was in awe of how much catastrophic devastation it had caused.

Please take appropriate safeguards. Wishing all the best for you and yours.

Thanks guys, I was just going to look for some of those numbers.  In fact, we were just called on the phone, it was a recording with some of these numbers but it sounded like some Political Propaganda so I hung up.  My mother stayed on and said those were important numbers but she could not write them down in time.

I would contact your county emergency number. I believe they have evacuation facilities for the disabled.

Hopefully we won't have to evacuate John, we are not in an evacuation area which is good.  Pretty close to the coast though, ten fifteen minutes and I'm on the beach.  I just hope my mother will hang on because she is very sick, so those numbers will be a big help if she needs it.  I will look for the Local West Palm Beach numbers also.

pcpunk...I've been watching this storm for days. 2 daughters and families live in Boca Raton. I lived there for 25 years. Like you, I helped

rebuild after Andrew. Mostly hospitals, clinics and one mental health facility. All south of Hallandale...mostly south Dade and Homestead.

I didn't stay in tents. I managed to get close and stayed in private homes. Rank has its privileges... :)

I'll give you the same advice that I gave my daughters....get the hell out of Dodge. You will be out of harm's way in Miami, Fort Meyers, Coral Springs

or head north to someplace west of Orlando. Just viewing the predicted route....it has moved again from eastern Grand Bahama to much closer to you

and Boca Raton. Close enough that there will be severe damage...no electricity for sure....flooding....roofs torn off....streets blocked with all types of debris.

Just like after Andrew.

I've been watching traffic cams, too. Traffic is very light right now on both the Turnpike and I-95. I don't expect it stay that way.

FL511 | Florida Traffic | Commuter Information

When asked to describe South Dade County or Homestead area after Andrew....I finally gave up and would just say the wreckage was

not possible to describe...you just have to see for yourself.

@buddy215, yes I wish we could leave, it's a little late now and we didn't really have anywhere to go, funds are low etc.  My mother probably would not do well traveling and I hear the roads are a mess, but have not looked at the traffic cams.  We really should have left but many things were going on right before this nasty storm came about, with moms doctors etc.  I'm almost not able to travel either but would have been nice to not be so stressed.  We will survive, were Floridians!  I managed to get all the storm awnings closed up nice and all our stuff inside.  Some neighbors wanted help, but told them I'm barely getting it done for us, they got help from others.

It's crazy that everyone waits till the last minute to get prepared.  I had no choice because I don't have money to do anything anyhow lol.  Some aren't worried at all, not even closing their storm awnings.  Those things don't look all that strong but they been on these houses since the late seventies, so they an't bad.

Thanks again to everyone!

One of the better beach cams...located in Boca Raton. It's weather station has been on the blink for a while but the cams still work.

You can watch it till it gets blown away....Boca

Have you seen this....the storm is expected to circle back.

Yes, been watching closely...O-Boy lol, wish I weren't so sick.  One of my issues is Adrenals, and get stressed real easy.  Now might get pounded TWICE LOL.  Still, some of my neighbors are not even closing storm shutters?  And some leaving there junk outside their house, to act as a projectile and smash our vehicles?

Yes again, I was thinking this was going to be bad, and others are preparing pretty well also.  Sometimes we get complacent but most are taking care of business.

Thanks for the support! PcPunk

This storm could be a CAT5 by the time it hits West Palm Beach, that is not good, it is at a CAT4 now!

Looks like you are out of danger....the storm is tracking further east than expected....relax.

Can't say the same for Grand Bahama....the eye will pass over it.

@buddy215:  Oooo, thanks for the Update, I stopped watching for a while, it was stressing me out a little.  I used to thrive, get an adrenaline rush for stuff like this.  Would help others, go to the beach till it wasn't safe etc. now it is more stressful.

Were you in Delray or nearby when hurricane David hit in '79? That was the only hurricane that I experienced during my 25 years.
