Hello everyone,

I have tried everything I've head in these forums and others but so far cannot fix my pc.  I consider myself an intermidate user that can usually fix
most Windows problems.  This seems like a common problem and I have tried very hard to repair this before bothering the good people here.
I have performed chkdsk /r and run a few anti-malware and virus scanners (ones suggested on this site) before trying to fix the problem.
The computer runs good but cannot install any new window update files which worries me.

Here's a few things I've documented to kick things off.

SFC Scan:

Microsoft Windows [version 10.0.14393]
© 2016 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan.  This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 56% complete.

Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

DISM Scan:

C:\Windows\system32>dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management Tool
Version: 10.0.14393.0

Image Version: 10.0.14393.0

[===========================91.8%=====================     ]
Error: 1726

The remote procedure call failed

Comment:  I checked all the Remote Procedure Call services as mentioned elsewhere on this forum and have
also used the DISM command using Install.wim source with the same result.

Repair Install:

I have used the Media Creation Tool and Windows proceeds to do a repair install.  Gets to the point where
I think it's about to reboot and I get the Message: Windows 10 installation failed.

Windows Update:

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3193494)

Comment: Update that fails to install.  It gets to 10% and then I get:

Some update files are missing or have problems. We’ll try to download the update again later.
Error code: (0x80073712)

Comment:  I have used the trouble shooter for Windows updates and reset the component store to no avail

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

So according to Windows Error Explanation ,Error Code 0x80073712 ,"may occur if the Component-Based Servicing (CBS) manifest is corrupted."

For Further Information Regarding Error Code 0x80073712 Follow HERE

If you have done all these steps already and the issues still persist, you may want to look into possibly Resetting the PC and Reinstall everything.

I'll give that a try, use one of my other PCs as a source and see what happens. I'd rather try to fix the install that I have before starting fresh. I feel like it's that Remote Procedure Call that is getting in the way of rectifying things with DISM.

Tweaking.com - Windows Repair is an all-in-one repair tool to help fix a large majority of known Windows problems including resetting Windows Services to Default. This tool will allow you to repair common issues with your computer such as firewall, file permission, and Windows Update problems.  When using this tool you can select the particular fixes you would like to launch and start the repair process.  This tool also comes in a portable version that allows you to use the program from a portable device such as a USB flash drive.

Download At Bleeping Computer HERE

I would recommend Downloading it and Running the Repair Option for "Windows Services" and See if that Helps . Run the Tweaking.com in Safe Mode With Networking and  from Repairs tab click Open Repairs button. From opened Repairs window place check mark for Reset Registry Permissions, Reset Service Permissions, Register System Files, Repair WMI, Repair Network, Repair Windows Firewall, Remove Policies Set By Infections, Repair Proxy Settings, Repair Windows Updates, Repair MSI (Windows Installer), Restore Important Windows Services, Set Windows Services To Default Startup,  Restore UAC (User Account Control) Settings,Repair Hosts File, Repair Performance Counters, Repair Volume Shadow Copy Service, Repair MDAC & MS Jet and Reset File Permissionscheck boxes and click Start Repair button.

Your CBS.log shows corrupt files that needs to be replaced. Here's a first fix, I'll source the missing files once I get home tonight, since I don't have them at work.

Opera: thanks for the info.  Maybe that's what started this with my PC since my other two are running like a dream with no errors after the updates.

Aura: thanks for the help too, appreciate it :)

Alright, now let's run a SFC scan to see if the replacements were accepted.

EndqYRa.pngSystem File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select Spcusrh.pngRun as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't have the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.

Hiya Aura,

The SFC scan got to 56% again and bombed out. Here is the cbs.txt file https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17595516/cbs.txt

I tried dism as well and that got to 100% and then the remote procedure call kicked in again.

Regards, Chris.

I can see the error in your CBS.log, though it isn't associated with any file, folder, key, etc.
2016-10-07 16:45:02, Error                 CSI    000032fd@2016/10/7:05:45:02.540 (F) onecore\base\wcp\componentstore\deltastore.cpp(2483): Error STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER originated in function ComponentStore::CRawStoreLayout::DecompressFile expression: Parameter check failed
[gle=0x80004005]
Run DISM, and once done, provide me the two logs below please (even if it fails).

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\DISM.log

Hi Aura,

The weird thing with dism is if i use scan health before restorehealth dism gets to 100% but if I do restorehealth by itself it gets to 84.1%

Here are the logfiles:

CBS.log - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17595516/CBS.log

DISM.log - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17595516/dism.log
