This security update shows as succeeding, then a restart is required to finish.  Unfortunately the configuration does not complete and i get a black screen. I wait several minutes, but there is no logon screen, so I power off. On Safe Mode the configuration is reverted. Windows restarts and the KB is re-offered for reinstall.

Other windows updates are installing successfully including those requiring restart.

Thank you for the link, but I do not understand how it helps.

If you are referring to the EMET workaround - I had already used group policy to make those changes.

Yesterday I applied  my July full system image. This reinstated the system to prior KB3175024.

I installed the System Update Readiness Tool (DISM for W7).. It found no errors.  Sfc scan and chkdsk found no errors.

I tried the update again and got the same result.

This has now been solved. :clapping:

I spent 4 days on this and ran a lot of script files. I also uninstalled KB3193414 as it was producing a lot of WU errors. Because of this I disabled MSE as soon as the restart for KB3175024 was requested - it did not black screen after that and installed successfully. I can not say definitely that MSE was the culprit as I ran several troubleshooter tools that may have had a positive effect without me knowing it.
