Good or bad, or better or worse?  When joining or registering for a different forum, maybe another one for general technical help, or a forum for a brand of software, or a forum for a brand of devices or equipment, how should we choose usernames?  Keep the same one as in what we used in Bleeping Computer?  Choose a different username for each different forum to join?  How should one think of this and to choose?   Members reading this, if you are not opposed to telling, what are your practices for this?  Any reasons?

I do as well. Sometimes I question the wisdom of that, on the other hand what I've posted elsewhere on subjects such as Politics and Religion, I stand by them.

Partly because I am simple minded I tend to use the same one of two because otherwise it gets difficult remembering who I am. Either my name, which is what I use here and when I am moved to comment in an on-line paper i read or 'Jeremiah3'. And don't ask why I picked that one because I can't remember !

I like to use the same one ...

Jeremiah 3. I looked it up. Perhaps we could have a difference of opinion about that. It would start in the correct forum.

I have kept the same user name since my first foray into the web.  This goes all the way back to AOL on a dial up line, (circa 1984).  It is important to choose a unique user name that isn't likely to already be in use by another user.  A combination of initials, numbers and special characters can help but may not be available on each site depending upon their own guidelines.  A help to choose a unique name can be done on google,  it can be used to track a user name already in use and will yield search results or come up blank on one NOT in use already.

I'm on my third. I said to my wife the other day, "I might be looking for a fourth wife." She said, "I'll help you look!"

I tend to use the same user-name on most sites.

I don't think it will be a problem. Using the same username can help you remember it. But use a different password for each profile.

One username. Problem is when login is already taken.
