I have DSL and I was told by my provider that I could only receive about 4.00mbps on a good day which I have not seen. 50% of the time I only get about 2.5 mbps, And the other 50% of the time I get less than 1.00mbps I have called my provider tech and he came out and could not resolve the problem. My question is: I am hard wired to the modem with an ethernet cable. but when I watch the modem during a download I see the Wi-Fi light flashing rapidly along with the internet light. Could I be receiving data through both the ethernet cable and the Wi-Fi at the same time, Which would slow my PC down twice as slow? I notice on the PC that my Wi-Fi is connected. I prefer just using the ethernet cable if possible.

Windows should just use your wired connection.  To be sure of this go to lan connections and disable the wifi adapter [right mouse click on the icon to get the enable/disable choice].
