OK, here is what happens when you are sleep deprived - needed a program to find duplicate photos and confused this POS with a legit program that this one appears to copy with a few minor cosmetic changes. Here's the link.

http://freepicturesolutions.com/free-duplicate-photo-finder.html

Yes, I downloaded and ran a file from a site that proudly features a button DOWNLAD NOW. You know, when you read about some particularly dumb crime and think "what the hell were they thinking" - well, that's how I feel today after 10 hours of sleep.

Now, Norton that I have did not flag it when downloading or installing. Also ran virustotal on installer and did not find anything Later when I checked the actual program file, I got two positives

https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/0167dee2ac74bf3bbca07b7e755e432b188152f5b998b4f59ac0daf83156fd65/analysis/1474749538/

After this ran Malwarebytes and Hitmanpro on my PC and did not find anything, but I am still paranoid. On one hand I am thinking "nuke from orbit" type approach but I really don't want to nuke my Win10 install and rebuild from scratch. This is actually my basement PC that is a plex server and storage for all photos, movies etc and there is one SDD with Win10 in it and four hard drives with photos, movies and other junk in it, if I were to assume all hard drives could be compromised, I am not even sure where to start with regards to safely moving content and then nuking all the drives.

Thoughts?

Welcome to BC...

Those two programs that supposedly identified what might be....heuristically....a trojan, is not something to panic over.

Since most free stuff these days come bundled with adware....I suggest you scan using the programs below.

Use CCleaner to remove Temporary files, program caches, cookies, logs, etc. Use the Default settings. No need to use the

Registry Cleaning Tool...risky. Pay close attention while installing and UNcheck offers of toolbars....especially Google.

After install, open CCleaner and run by clicking on the Run Cleaner button in the bottom right corner.

CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

Download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.

  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Scan button.
  • When the scan has finished click on Clean button.
  • Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
  • Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.
  • download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
  • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message

I assume you have uninstalled the duplicate finder.

There is another solution....you can use a System Restore Point prior to downloading the Duplicate finder. That is if System Restore was enabled.

If System Restore is not enabled..you may want to enable it for future use. How to Enable System Restore (and Repair System Problems) on Windows 10
