Does it matter which way you plug in an Ethernet crossover cable..?

Does it ever matter which end goes into which machine on an Ethernet crossover cable..?

Doesn't seem likely, but just asking in case.

AFAIK no. I think that rumor stems from ISP technicians telling people to "flip the ethernet cord" to force users to physically unplug/replug the ethernet in. Sometimes it works, but not because the direction matters, but the act of disco/reco can possible straighten out pins or re-secure a not all the way pushed in ethernet.
