Windows 10, laptop connected to a monitor via VGA cable. Randomly at times, the monitor will not register the VGA and my laptop will immediately log off and send me to the login screen?

Do you have the display set to duplicate or extend?

and you might try hitting the start button ( on the keyboard ) and P and click extend.

Also, how many pins does the VGA cable have? most have 15, some have less.

Okay, and have you tried  uninstalling  and re-installing the video driver?

Go To Device Manager (right click on the start button on your desktop) then go up to device manager,

find the pulldown menu that says "Display adapters"

then right click and hit uninstall, and then restart your computer.

it will automatically pick up the video driver and install it, and that should fix your issue.

Done that so will let you know how it goes, thanks. Does however seem to be running a little slower know and an unknown device as appeared in the device manager that wasn't there beforehand?

What happens when you click/tap on this device.

Does this change if you click/tap on View and select Show hidden devices?

The hardware ID looks like this:

PCI\VEN_1000&DEV_0001&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_02 "    <---- Example
