My laptop is slow. I added an additional 4gb of ram hoping it would speed it up a bit but it's moving even slower now. I'm not sure if there is anything I can do to speed it up just for general use.

Attached is picture of what I'm working with, I'm curious what the difference is between physical memory that is 'free' and that is on 'standby' and if that's something that could be changed.

I'm looking for any advice on how to get my laptop to run a little better, programs regularly go into 'not responding' and crash (such as winrar, and adobe after effects) even when doing very small tasks. Everything seems to lag. It's quite frustrating. Any advice would be appreciated.
