I accidentally clicked on a shady advertising banner and seconds after that my PC (Win 8.1) went into shutdown mode and rebooted, which took considerably longer than normal (about 5 min instead of the usual 30sec). This has never happened before. Since I have configured every Update process to be manual, I can confirm it was not a windows update or the like.
When I checked the event logs, it appears that
1) The first reboot failed for some reason
2) After the second reboot suceeded and I had logged in, a large number (20000) of entries in amcache.hve was flushed.
From a cursory search on the exact event message it appears that this file is commonly used in malware hunting so I was quite alarmed.
I did a scan with MBAM which could not find any suspicious files however.
Is there reason to be concerned?
