hrm, got a picture for us?

Does the drive have a label?

Do you have any extra drives hooked up?

Its probably just the recovery partition, it usually appears on some windows installs depending on your manufacturer.

I am just double checking

System manufacturer and model?  If you have an HP system, HP says it's the recovery partition.  If no HP system...it seems that it could be any number of events (including Win 10) which resulted in its appearance.

Possibly Pertinent Info

Hi! thank you both for the quick response

Photo I don't have one as of right now, the drive does not have a label just Local disk z:

I don't have anything hooked up, other than just my usb mouse and printer which I plug into the usb port when I need to.

I noticed it when I was doing a custom scan with MBAM, and click on the arrow beside it, it had EFI under the Local Disk z?

and my model is HP Pavilion 17 notebook pc

Ah its a EFI boot drive here, good.

Keep it, if you get rid of it then your OS may not boot.

I mean technically you can get rid of it but if its tied into secure boot then dont.

I am not sure if it had been appearing without me knowing under 'This PC"

I did try to click on the drive, said I wasn't allowed access and no security tab existed either

It hasn't show up for me before I find it kind of strange

"...It hasn't show up for me before I find it kind of strange..."

Boot partitions, such as Windows 7's System Reserved, normally do not get assigned a drive letter by Windows OS.

I never done a boot partition at all; its a first for me seeing an additional drive show up  :)

Would it be a setting change somewhere that windows itself might have done without me knowing?

As Madman indicated, do not worry about that boot partition, if the computer is working aok, continue with your studies and work  :)

Would it come from an HP program?
