Hello,

I am using Windows 8.1 64 bit

My C drive is showing 0 bytes available although this is not possible

I have deleted all of my music and picture files but this creates about 200MB of space which then fills up automatically again.

I have emptied the Recycle Bin also.

I do not have enough disk space to uninstall using Control Panel but I managed to uninstall some using the command prompt. Again this has made no difference

I have Sophos Anti Virus but no other protection

I cannot download anything onto my computer as the disk is full

I have tried to download onto a USB stick but this is also apparently full when I try to download from Chrome, although 10GB is shown to be available...

My problem is similar to this:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/c-drive-keeps-filling-up/838ebaa2-82da-4bdb-b679-e072f416bf65

I can't even save any screenshots because my disk is full! But here are some saved online:

Please click the above links to see 'My Computer' and also 'Disk Management'

I think this may be a virus as it is so unusual. I am really not great with computers so I would be so grateful for any advice

Thank you so much

Try running ESET, nothing to install

cvMlKv6.pngESET Online Scanner
  • Click here to download the installer for ESET Online Scanner and save it to your Desktop.
  • Disable all your antivirus and antimalware software - see how to do that here.
  • Right click on esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe and select Run as Administrator.
  • Place a checkmark in YES, I accept the Terms of Use, then click Start. Wait for ESET Online Scanner to load its components.
  • Select Enable detection of potentially unwanted applications.
  • Click Advanced Settings, then place a checkmark in the following:
    • Remove found threats
    • Scan archives
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth technology
  • Click Start to begin scanning.
  • ESET Online Scanner will start downloading signatures and scan. Please be patient, as this scan can take quite some time.
  • When the scan is done, click List threats (only available if ESET Online Scanner found something).
  • Click Export, then save the file to your desktop.
  • Click Back, then Finish to exit ESET Online Scanner.

Hi

Thank you so much for the reply

However I cannot download the ESET installer because I have no disk space. I tried in Google Chrome and I just kept getting the 'Failed - disk full' error message, even when I try to download to the D drive

Do you have any other suggestions I could try?

Thank you

Hi

I managed to download ESET but I now get the error message:

"Cannot update virus signature database. Not enough disk space. You need an additional 150MB to complete the operation"

Apologies if I am being silly!

After download when it asks about "update virus signature database"
is it a yes or no option.. that you can say no to?

No, there's no option to update, or to refuse the update, that error message comes up after I click 'Scan'
The only option I'm given is to go back to the Scan menu

It is responding the same as above, exactly the same error message.

Just checked back with the checkbox options - I have a slightly different set of these:

You can try the following to clear up some space in order to run your scan.

Your C: partition is only 105GB. I am not sure how it functions but how much space is allocated to your Mcafee Vaults? Does it allocate space from the 105GB partition?

Make sure you are not using Windows backup on the hard drive. Disable it if on- See step 4

Delete any backups if backup was enabled.

Turn off System Restore on C:

Type Disk Cleanup in your search box and use it to clean your temp files.

Hi

Thanks for your help. I have tried all of the above to no avail, although I'm not sure what you mean about the McAffee? How would I find out how much space is allocated to McAffee?
