Will re installing Win 10 solve my internet connection problem?

Neither my wireless not ethernet will connect my Lenovo X201 Tablet to the internet.

 

Both adaptors are working and drivers up to date (after the wireless packed up the ethernet was working when I checked for driver updates, then that stopped too); I have checked over all aspects of this glitch with no clues as to the problem.

 

MS diagnostics says 'There might be a problem with (both) adaptors'

 

I had the laptop checked over with a professional computer technician who said that all is working OK but the internet connection is a 'system' problem and the solution is to re install Win 10.

 

The laptop was upgraded from Win 7 successfully and worked with Win 10 OK for more than a year until now.  No dramatic happening occurred at the time of this problem eg a dodgy download etc. 

 

I am using the laptop on offline work without any problems.

 

Using Chrome.

 

I'd like some views on the Win 10 re install please.

There has been a rash of internet access failures from WINX updates.  You're not in that boat alone.   A re-install of WINX night cure  the fault until you get that update that messes it up again.  Good Luck.

Thanks for responding - I forgot to say that my router uses 4 computers (3 using Win 10, 2 of which no connection problem), 3 tablets and a smart phone with just 2 devices using it at any one time so the router is OK .

See if disabling one of the adapters in Device Manager helps. People have reported an end to connectivity issues in Wifi when the Ethernet was disabled, not uninstalled, in Device Manager. 

 

Looking at your support site for the X201 there is no wifi driver for Windows 10 64bit. 

 

Edit: Also, no Ethernet driver is listed either.

Yes you're right but what does that mean? MS said that the drivers were up to date. Well there have to be drivers so the support site must be misinforming?

 

I'll try your suggestion of disabling one of the adaptors in the morning.

Windows 10 installs driver updates through the Windows Update process. 

 

Right click the Wifi Adapter in Device Manager. Select Properties. Under the Details tabs select Hardware IDs in the dropdown box. Copy and Paste the first line into your next post.

Is it definitely a driver issue? What is the connectivity issue exactly? For instance, can you get a IP address or ping a outside IP? Try running Minitoolbox, just checking "List IP Configuration" and post the log.

Firstly, I remembered System Diagnostics Report - perfmon /report - running that  for 'Collecting data for 60 seconds....' .

 

After 4 mins with no report I went to make breakfast. It was still running after 15 mins! Does this indicate anything?

 

I then went for Reliability Monitor the results of which I didn't understand and nothing caught my eye.

 

Disabling in turn the adaptors didn't help.

 

I don't have MTB on my laptop - I've now got the FRST portable on a flash drive so will run that when laptop finishes a job, in 45 mins.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.
 
Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
  List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
 
Click Go and paste the content into your next post.
 
Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

   Go to Piriform's website, and download the free version on the left.  Click Download from Piriform.com (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.

    After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.
 
     Once inside Speccy, it will look similar to this (with your computer's specifications, of course): p22004369.gif

     Now, at the top, click File > Publish Snapshot. You will see the following prompt:

     Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard

Don't forget I have to use another computer to do these as the Lenovo won't connect. 

 

 

You need to run MiniTools and speccy on the computer that does not connect. 

 

Copy Minitools to a USB flash drive, run it on the computer that does not connect and save the log. You can to the same with speccy. Make sure you remove the Windows key in the log because Speccy will reveal the key if you do not publish to the web.

I've got Lenovo Speccy on my flash drive but I cannot seem to post it here - tried several ways. Advice please. I've looked for the Key in Speccy but can't see it - whereabouts is it please.
