I have discovered, after a Secunia PSI scan for outdated programmes, that I do not have the latest/last version 4.30.2117 of MSXML 4 SP3 parser installed. This apparently poses a potential security vulnerability. The version I have is 4.30.2100. This situation probably occured when I upgraded my newly purchased PC from Windows 8.1, which came installed, to Windows 10.
After posting on the Secunia Community forum I was advised the best option was now to uninstall XMSL 4 SP3 parser as it had now been superceded and was no longer supported. MSXML 6 and 3 are installed. I may lose functionality in any programme still utilising it but it was basically old and out of date.
However I had noticed that advice on various relevant threads on MS Community was not to uninstall MSXML 4 SP3 parser as it may affect the OS.This seemed a standard response without much explanation.
I only possess fairly basic computer skills, enough though to understand the importance of keeping programmes up to date. So I am not sure whether it is OK to uninstall MSXML 4 SP3 parser or not ? If not what do I need to do to remedy the situation ? I am not sure that I can download the last version or if I need to do so as I am using Windows 10 and this programme came preinstalled with Windows 8.1, I assume .
Any advice appreciated.
