Hi there!

I got this message when I clicked a tab just to see different types of tv shows redirected me to a different page; I had windows defender on as well.

The fake message popup while I am using chrome; I did not click anything on the page that popped up other than leave the page and supposedly "A virus has been detected" voice was played;

I would like to make sure my system is safe. I am running eset online scanner, mbam and windows defender as of right now

Please post the scan logs for MBAM and Eset when the scans finish showing what they found and deleted/ quarantined.

Sometimes it is as easy as deleting the cached files in the browser. Suggest you run scans using the programs below, too.

Use CCleaner to remove Temporary files, program caches, cookies, logs, etc. Use the Default settings. No need to use the

Registry Cleaning Tool...risky. Pay close attention while installing and UNcheck offers of toolbars....especially Google.

After install, open CCleaner and run by clicking on the Run Cleaner button in the bottom right corner.

CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

Download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.

  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Scan button.
  • When the scan has finished click on Clean button.
  • Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
  • Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.
  • download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
  • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message

Okay...have you run scans using CCleaner, AdwCleaner and JRT?

Okay...take the advice given in the last scan. Other than that....I think you are good to go.

If you don't have an ad blocker I suggest Adblock Plus which I have used for years. Works in both Firefox and Chrome.

Adblock Plus :: Add-ons for Firefox   Adblock Plus - Chrome Web Store

You can block the Third party cookies from installing....aka....ad/ tracking cookies. Once blocked run CCleaner to remove the ones presently installed.

How to disable third-party cookies in all major web browsers

I think it might have been just scareware?

I do have adblock plus for both browsers!

Thank you for your time and assistance =)

You're welcome...happy surfin'

Most likely it was a hacked web page....because Adblock Plus would of blocked legit ad servers.

If you haven't done this....click on the ABP icons and choose Filter Preferences. UNcheck the box next to Allow some non-intrusive advertisements.

Just wanted to give an update; I am experiencing as of right now connection issues with my wifi; I keep disconnecting since I am using my laptop, other devices like my phone are working just fine

I have updated my drivers (adapter drivers) and keeping an eye out

I am worried that my network itself might have been hacked or something?

I think you will get the best advice on that starting a new topic in the External Hardware Forum.

I don't think this is a malware issue.
