Hi,

I have been trying to download some software, approximately 30 mins into the donload I receive the Generic error message. If I do not debug or close the window, the downloads continues until I receive another error message:

'The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000409) occured in application location 0x5b86a3c0'

As I close or cancel this window, my download connection is then broken, I cannot re-connect and must re-boot the PC to re-connect.

Having seleted the tech info on the error message is reads as follows:

Error Signature
Event Type: BEX P1: svchost.exe P2: 5.1.2600.2180 P3: 41107ed6
P4: netapi32.dll P5: 5.1.2600.2180 P6: 41109ac P7: 0000a3c0
P8: c0000409 P9: 00000000

I then select the details of the error report and the following 2 files are stated
C:\documents and settings\system\local settings\temp\WER9003.dir00\svchost.exe.mdmp
C:\documents and settings\system\local settings\temp\WER9003.dir00\appcompat.txt

I have tried extensively to serch for the reg. entry relating to this but to no avail. I have completed a hijackthis report (detailed below), could you please advise me as to how I may resolve this. I appreciate the help.

Hi OT, thanks for the reply.
I have downloaded and installed the Patch update KB821883, as I will not be able to try downloading some software untill later today I will let you know how it turns out. This problem only happens as I am halfway through a sortware download which can sometimes be about 2 or 3 hours into it.

As I have more news I will let you know, thanks again

Antony

You are welcome ukstallion. I'm glad that we could help. This specific issue has been showing up in many places recently but we are not sure yet what exactly causes it but that patch seems to take care of it. I have heard everything from a new unknown virus to an MS screwup. Onlytime will tell

I will now close this topic. If you have any new malware questions in the future please start a new topic.

Cheers and Happy Computing :flowers:

OT
