I am receiving this error message (see attachment) when I attempt to save a document or a spreadsheet (MS Office 7). Once saved if I create another document with Word (or Excel) still open and save the second document I do not receive the message. I can cancel the error message and Word will correctly save the document to my file location.

If I close Word and reopen it and then create another document the same error reoccurs.

If I copy an image, paste it into irfanview and save it to my pictures folder there is no error message and the picture is saved.

There is no error message if I write a note in Notepad and save it.

There is no error message if I open an existing document and then "Save As" another file name in the same or a different directory.

I have no problem with any other aspect of my network, just this particular error. It only began a few days ago. I have not added any new programs or changed my settings.

Paul

So apparently you don't have said file or don't have access to it.  That address line is a default and may be correctable in the setup for MSO7.  Often a freebie with bundles and I take it this is an ASUS unit and the program is trying to call home, for whatever reason.

Many thanks for the reply.

  • This does not occur when I open an existing file. I have access to all my files.
  • I can open an existing file, modify it and save it without this error message.
  • The error message only occurs when I open Word or Excel and create a new doc or xls and try to save it.
  • If I click Cancel on the error message, it disappears and I can then save the doc or xls with no problem.
  • The error only occurs when I open Word or Excel for the first time, thereafter the Save function works as normal.
  • If I close either program and then reopen it and create a new file and try to save it, the error occurs.

I do have an Asus Desktop and it's name on my home network is AsusMain (see attached). The question is why is Word/Excel attempting to save this document on the network when the default Save location for both is "D:\Documents\" (see attached).

I don't think the program is trying to call home, but it is definitely a network problem. It is not likely Word/Excel problem since the default Save locations are correct. Maybe I am wrong about this however.
