Restored a Win 7 box to a pre SP1 version of Win 7. Windows Update worked  until installation of SP1. After that WU just spins its wheels. Then I tried https://catalog.update.microsoft.com/ but on two different machines running Win 7 and IE 11 I'm unable to get that site to work. I'm thinking of trying WSUS Offline Update. Any other ideas?

I've used WSUS several times with very good success. First though, you should have a read here: http://www.howtogeek.com/255435/how-to-update-windows-7-all-at-once-with-microsofts-convenience-rollup/

I never make the same mistake twice....I always make it 5 or 6 times just to be sure!

Windows update still not working after trying all the steps linked. Convenience Rollup is only available at https://catalog.update.microsoft.com which isn't working on my two Win 7 boxes with IE11 but was able to get with IE8. Any other suggestions for fixing Windows Update?

Update started working again. I'm not 100% on why but it might be this.

- I assume that WU started working again after you installed the "Convenience" update ?

- Getting WU to work again has turned into a "trial & error" game.
