Hi,

For the past few weeks I have noticed that whenever I click to open a link my internet explorer opens up a different address (usually shopping related) and it is really irritating. Also, when I do a search on google and click the links an entirely different address opens up.

I have run McAfee virus scan which said it was the JS-Wonka trojan and had cleaned it. Ad-Aware told me it was called 'A better internet', both adaware and spybot failed to sort the problem. I finally ran ewido which said my computer was affected with a trojan 'small.fb' but was unable to clean it or delete it. I have also ran fixwareout but nothing seems to sort the problem.

I would be very grateful if somebody could look at my hijackthis log file below and advise what I should delete/alter.

Thanks for your help

Alex

Hello there and welcome to Bleeping Computer's security forum.
My name is David, I will be helping you with your log today.

It is a good idea to print off these instructions:
This will be useful as there is a possibility some of the instructions will need to be carried out where internet access is not available.
You may also like to save these instructions in word/notepad to the desktop where they can be easily found for the same reasons as above.
A print out of the instructions would be a good reference to make sure you don't yet lost.
Also, it is important that you complete the instructions in the right order, and also that you don't miss any steps out!
If you have any queries about the process or just general questions, just ask.

Your Java is out of date and the older versions are being exploited by malware.
It is the likely cause of your infection, so we need to get it patched up as soon as possible.
Click on start, then control panel, and then double-click on add/remove programs.
Search in the list for all older installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
It should have next icon next to it: Posted Image
Highlight each and click Remove.
Then Download and install the newest version from here:
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following if still present:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmlke.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmlke.exe
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{2F8F899B-EB9A-4AA7-B35D-6C5FC38661C3}: NameServer = 85.255.113.91,85.255.112.9
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{72EC6C4C-2A34-492F-94B4-2B7D21C4B6E8}: NameServer = 85.255.113.91,85.255.112.9
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{9663EA90-5FB7-4AD5-A81E-4837C1F26CD5}: NameServer = 85.255.113.91,85.255.112.9
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{CB323FE8-4746-4014-94DD-9E323C26E014}: NameServer = 85.255.113.91,85.255.112.9
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{D5C6532C-6256-4A05-8CA3-BF49FA121DDA}: NameServer = 85.255.113.91,85.255.112.9
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.113.91 85.255.112.9
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.113.91 85.255.112.9

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Go to Control Panel. - If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category. If you are in Classic View, go to the next step .
  • Double-click the Network Connections icon
  • Right-click the Local Area Connection icon and select Properties.
  • Hilight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click the Properties button.
  • Be sure Obtain DNS server address automatically is selected.
  • OK your way out.
Go to Start > Run and type in cmd
Click OK.
This will open a commad prompt.
Type or copy and paste the following line in the command window:

ipconfig /flushdns

Hit Enter
Exit the command window

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. If your firewall gives an alert, (because this tool will download an additional file from the internet), please don't let your firewall block it, but allow it instead.
Then you will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log.

David

Hello there,

It is a good idea to print off these instructions:
This will be useful as there is a possibility some of the instructions will need to be carried out where internet access is not available.
You may also like to save these instructions in word/notepad to the desktop where they can be easily found for the same reasons as above.
A print out of the instructions would be a good reference to make sure you don't yet lost.
Also, it is important that you complete the instructions in the right order, and also that you don't miss any steps out!
If you have any queries about the process or just general questions, just ask.

Open hijackthis, click 'config' (bottom right)
Choose the tab 'misc Tools' on top.
Choose 'delete a file on reboot'
In the field, copy and paste next:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMPVA.EXE

Click open.
Hijackthis will tell you that this file will be deleted on next reboot and if you want to reboot now.
When asked if you want to reboot now, say Yes.

Please download, install, and update Ewido anti-spyware
Load Ewido and then click the Update tab at the top.
Under Manual Update click Start update.

After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Then click on the Scanner tab at the top.
Click the "Settings" tab and then change the recommended action to Quarantine.
Click Automatically generate report after every scan.
Click back to the "Scan" tab and then click on Complete System Scan.
This scan can take quite a while to run, so be prepared.
Ewido will list any infections found on the left hand side.

When the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action.
Click the Apply all actions button.
Ewido will display "All actions have been applied" on the right hand side.
Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As".
This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again (like on the Desktop).
Close Ewido and post the log here.

Also let me know how the system is running
David

I see a clean log here

However malware like this normally never comes alone and there are probably infected files left on your computer.
Please visit Panda Online to carry out a virus scan.
Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button.
A new window will open...click the Check Now button.
Enter your personal details.
Click the big Scan Now button.
It will ask to install various content - please allow this.
It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan, which may take a while.
When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan.
When the scan completes, click the See Report button.
Click Save Report and save the file to your desktop.
Post the contents of the report in your next reply, along with a new Hijackthis log.
