As you saw in the tittle, my computer upon start, keeps on saying "Windows Activation Error code:0x44578". It is said on a white rectangular box and the Toll Free # it's saying to call is "(888) 524-0577". You need to have the "password" to get in and i've already tried "closecloseclosecloseclose" (CLOSE lowercased 5x). I've tried F4, F5, F6, F7, F8, Shift + Restart, and many many more. I've even DELETED all my files and everything and its still there. I do not have any access to anything on my PC and that is the only thing that shows up, nothing else. I currently have the latest version of Windows and simply do not know what to do at ALL. The screen also says near the top/middlish left corner on a card, "ask for GENUINE Microsoft software" and it also contains 3 buttons. "Server 1", "Server 2", "Server 3". I can do Ctrl + Alt + Delete and access the settings charm with Shift + Restart. I simply do not know what to do so I have come upon this forum for advice.

I tried what it had said. Shift + Restart, blah blah, press F5/5 to access Safe Mode with Networking. The computer restarted and the same screen is back. Nothing has changed.

Just a note I did run CCleaner moments before the virus was downloaded so I know for sure I had downloaded it the same day. Also Windows Defender did show it was dealing with some malware twice after I had downloaded the virus.

Need to get you into safe mode, but unfortunately have to run out for now. If someone doesnt help you today, I will send some instructions in the morn.

Yes, I did get into the options from F1-F9. I will try the same process and do safe mode and just safe mode and see what happens. Otherwise, for now I will have to wait.

Sadly, the same thing happened again. Nothing has changed at all.

Hi! I'm working with a customer computer that has this virus. I found a way to access the desktop since safe mode with networking doesn't work. And you can't open the process manager. The way I found is to boot your computer into "Safe Mode with Command Prompt". Then, once you are logged in you will see the command prompt. Just enter "explorer.exe" and press enter. You now have access to your desktop. I'm currently uninstalling all the crap that has entered this computer. I will try a adwcleaner and a malwarebytes. This computer is running Windows 7.
