Hi! I have an ASUS N550 laptop from about 2 years and it's overheating without doing anything on it. I went to a service and after they cleaned the dust out and changed thermal paste they said that system fan is damaged and should be replaced. They replaced it but it still heating very high(about 80 degrees). They told me that it's still heating because I have some powerful programs (After Effects, Photoshop, Sketchup...) but I don't think that is the problem because I had these programs since I bought the laptop. Sorry for my english and I hope you can help me. Thanks!

EDIT: I just noticed that this problem appears only when the laptop is on AC power and it's fully charged but on battery it works just fine.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

Go to Piriform's website, and download the free version on the left.  Click Download from Piriform.com (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.

After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.

Once inside Speccy, it will look similar to this (with your computer's specifications, of course): p22004369.gif

Now, at the top, click File > Publish Snapshot. You will see the following prompt:

p22004371.gif

Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard

p22004372.gif

Now, once you are back in the forum topic you are posting in, click the p22004370.gif button. Right-click in the empty space of the Reply box and click Paste. Then, click Add Reply below the Reply box.

Hey! Thank you for your help. The temperature is now about 70 degrees but I still think it's too high.

Max operating temp for your CPU is 100 Celsius, Speccy reflects average temp as 70 Celsius.  I would not consider reported tem as "overheating", particularly so since system is a laptop.  OTOH...it probably would not do any harm to try to minimize the heat factor inside your system.  You won't necessarily be able to take the same steps that one can take with a desktop...but others here can advise you on what you can do.

FWIW

I noted that you have outdated versions of Java installed...see Why should I remove older versions of Java from my system - http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/remove_olderversions.xml .

Something is going on which may relate to your CPU temps.  Your system process looks WAY out of line for RAM usage.  Looking at Event Viewer, you seem to have a number of problems with services ..when I combine that with the System process results and your increased vulnerability due to torrents and outdated Java...I would think it a good idea to have the system checked for malware.

System    Process ID: 4    Memory Usage: 330 MB    Peak Memory Usage: 2.42 GB

Thanks for your help again. So I just updated Java , deleted some torrents and checked for malware but my antivirus show me that my system is clean so I will run a full scan tomorrow. About the problem with services, how can I resolve this problem? Do you think a clean install of Windows would be a good idea?

I cannot posit a possible solution...when I have no idea just what the problem is.  The items we have discussed...are only symptoms and those are subject to interpretation by anyone who reads them.

I think that you ought to have a malware check in the Am I Infected forum.  IMO (which is highly uneducated) there are few situations where users effectively detect/neutralize all the possible malware which may come their way.  That's why the BC forums which deal with malware...exist.  I can move this topic to AII if you want to check for malware.

Sure, you can move this topic. But I was wondering why the temperature increases only when the laptop it's plugged in but on battery the temperature remains at 30-40 degrees.

Hi vladalex40!

You CPU temperature (~70C) is withing reasonable limits for a laptop. Ambient temperature is also factor so if your place is very warm it is going to affect the laptops temprature. Reason why your temperature goes up when laptop is plugged in might be due to power plan used by Windows. When laptop relies on battery Windows may limit its processing power in order to increase battery life.

Any application that relies on CPU heavy operations(ex. rendering, video editing) and as such increase your laptops temperature. If your idle temperature(=when you aren't running any applications) is high you might want to disable auto-running programs and services. Then you can use those only when you need. Here is a good guide how to do this(Step 7 and onward).

If your problem persist you could think about investing on some external solution such as Cooling Mat. It might be worthy investment even because of the fact that high temperatures tend to decrease life time of hardware.

Malicious programs can also be running in background so we want to also check for any infections:

Download 51a46ae42d560-malwarebytes_anti_malware.MalwareBytes Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup-2.2.1.1043.exe to start the installation of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
  • Follow the instructions on your screen to complete the installation. You can find the complete installation procedure here.
  • Click the Scan Now button, a threat scan will start automatically.
  • MalwareBytes Anti-Malware will now check for the latest updates. Click Update Now if new updates are available.
  • Your computer is now being scanned, please do not use your computer during the scan.
  • If no threats were found, click View detailed log.
    • Click Export and save the log as a .txt file on your Desktop or another location.
  • If the scan detected any threats, click Remove Selected.
    • If you are prompted to restart computer click Yes.
    • After reboot, start Malwarebytes Anti-Malware again and click the History Tab at the top and select Application Logs.
    • Check the box next to Scan Log. Choose the most current scan double click it.
    • Click Export and save the log as a .txt file on your Desktop or another location.

Hi vladalex40

You appear to have had lot of PUP/Adware software on your computer. While they are not harmful like other malware they take up you system resources.
PUP software are usually bundled with free programs in order to generate revenue for the developer and are usually hidden options in the installer so be careful with all the

dialogs when installing software.
You can find more information about PUPs here.

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.

  • Double-click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • The tool will start to update its database...please wait until complete.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • After the scan has finished, click on the Logfile button...a report (AdwCleaner[SX].txt) will open in Notepad (where the largest value of X represents the most recent report).
  • After reviewing the log, click on the Clean button.
  • Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
  • Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
  • After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[CX].txt) will open automatically (where the largest value of X represents the most recent report).
  • Copy and paste the contents of AdwCleaner[CX].txt in your next reply.
  • A copy of all logfiles are saved to C:\AdwCleaner.

How is your computer running now?

Hi vladalex40,

Your issue does not seem to be malware related. I suggest you to read through stuff I posted earlier for a possible solution.
You could also try asking help from Internal Hardware forum. As a small additional tip, you can utilize Windows Resource Monitor(small guide here) to check what processes are taking up

your CPU time.

I hope you can get your issue resolved.

Thank you all for trying to solve my problem. I would like to try asking help from Internal Hardware forum but how can I move this post there?

Hi vladalex40

I suggest you create new topic in Internal Hardware and add link to this topic in your post.
