Hi guys!

I seem to be all alone here. I apologize if I missed another question regarding this topic.

I had to do a forced Windows 10 upgrade because my computer started acting like it had a virus...the most major problem being the keyboard acting like we spilled water on it {we didn't}. I couldn't find a solution, and I don't have the original installation disks {a friend gave me the 'puter}, so I caved and let Windows 10 install {with the virus protection on...stupid!!}.

i bought a wireless keyboard and that seems to have mostly resolved that issue...although there are a plethora of other problems with the install.

When I copy something, in every program I use after that, if I press the shift key, it pastes whatever I copied a billion times, and locks the program so I can't close it. I have to do a hard reboot. It also goes nuts every time I open a Windows program {e.g. trying to add flags to every email in Outlook; pasting line after line of the same thing I just copied in Firefox into Word}. CTRL+Shift acts as a copy command in all programs. Sorry if I'm interpreting two separate problems as one.

I've tried repairing Office from the disk in the Admin account {the only way I could make repair work}, but it just reverts back to the problem after Windows updates it again.

I tried to make a desktop shortcut with the command... %windir%\System32\cmd.exe /c "echo off | clip" ..., but it won't ask for the security check to allow the it, so it just flashes and doesn't clear the clipboard. { http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4326-clear-clipboard-shortcut-create-windows-10-a.html }

I'd rather not have to resort to that tedious intrusion in the middle of my work, anyway. I use copy and paste A LOT. working with files and pictures So, if there's a better solution, like disabling the auto-copy, I would really appreciate the help.

THANKS A TON!!

B. Paulsen

P.S. There are other issues with the copy and paste...cannot select all then right click to copy in Windows File Explorer {it creates copies all of the files in that folder} and other programs, but not all; selects everything when I click anywhere on a document and move the mouse; has a terrible time selecting the right text w/mouse; etc.

Is this a desktop or a laptop?

If a laptop, it could be that a key/keys is stuck - and that will affect everything that you try to do.

Disconnecting that keyboard will help, or you may be able to disable it in the BIOS

What i don't understand is why are you holding down Shift key to paste what is been copied?

If you want you can do Repair Install of Windows 10.

Just FYI - we had nearly unsolvable problems at work on a laptop.

We couldn't figure out the problem, until I unwittingly opened the context menu on the desktop.

And, when it opened, we saw the selection rolling up continuously on the menu.

Some quick keyboard work revealed that the up arrow key was sticking intermittently.

Replacing the keyboard fixed the problem.

Hi usasma and Freebooter,

Thanks so much for responding. I'm not intentionally holding it down to copy. I only use the shift key for capitalization and characters on the number keys, etc....I'm a lefty, so I don't use the number pad. I hope it's okay, I put the main point in bold type to avoid wasting your time, not to be pushy. :)

It is a laptop. As far as I can tell, there aren't any keys stuck on the laptop keyboard. The USB keyboard is brand new, and doesn't appear to have any stuck keys, either. Both behave the same way when I use the shift key after copying something.

I never heard of the option to use the shift key to auto-copy, either. From what I understand, based on the only two sources I could find, it's a Windows function. See here... http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/91147-shift-key-auto-copying-clipboard.html ; and here...http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4326-clear-clipboard-shortcut-create-windows-10-a.html ...and the example below.

I'm assuming when Microsoft destroyed several keys on my laptop keyboard, and then when I had a bad install of Windows 10, it somehow messed up the drivers for the laptop and external USB keyboards--updating them is useless. I didn't have this problem until they messed with my Windows 7. I'm also relatively sure trying to do a rollback won't be successful, either. I don't know if the problems with the mouse not selecting things properly is related.

I was a little concerned about disabling the laptop keyboard in case there are problems later. But, I'm on a strict work deadline and the massive problems I'm having in addition to the keyboard thing are making it impossible to get anything done. So, I'll try disabling the laptop keyboard, and the Windows 10 repair [this first].

I think I can find it in the BIOS, assuming Windows will still let me in. Any instructions you have for how to disable it, and/or precautions when doing the repair , would be much appreciated.

Is it alright if I come back with more questions if I have trouble with either solution...sorry can't do the question mark.

THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR TIME AND RESPONSES

B. Paulsen

I used the shift key here without thinking. Each system is different.  You'll have to poke around and see what you can see.

Yeah...I tried to find it in the BIOS and couldn't. I can uninstall it in the device manager, but it will just reinstall the next time I restart the system, which it requires to make the change...right?

I'll keep poking around, but I can't really think of anywhere else to look. My brain is completely fried...I haven't done any real work for two weeks.

The last time I tried to reset the PC, it wouldn't give me the "refresh" option. It wanted to obliterate everything, and there are several programs essential to my work that it won't install in compatibility mode. I wanted to wait to do the Windows 10 reinstall, per FreeBooter's instructions, in case something goes really wrong, but it looks as if it's my only recourse if I want to get anything done.

I was ready to go on a 3-State killing spree, starting in Bellevue/Redmond {it's a very short drive from here}, but everyone kept telling me I'm "too nice" for that, and it made me feel too guilty to follow through. Supposedly, one of the Microsoft big-wigs has a summer place in the mountains here. Maybe I should just camp out in the driveway and do the alligator tear thing when someone shows up...although it probably wouldn't phase the heartless... :censored:

Anyway, thanks for trying. I really appreciate it. :)

If anyone else has this problem....

I resolved it by disabling Windows 10's attempts to control the cursor size, blink rate, etc.,I also set the "auto scroll" to "off" and the touchpad to "No delay-always on."

Hope that helps!
