hi i added a monitor to my laptop ( needed a bigger screen) but when my monitor is plugged in ( HDMI ) i have no sound, how do i keep sound working

From Control Panel open Sounds.
Playback tab.

Right click in an empty space under what is listed there.

Check Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices.
After doing that, see if there is an option for HDMI.

Choose that option.

I also tried adding monitor to my laptop and it worked perfectly okay. I agree that you can just adjust the sound on the setting ad it will work fine. Also check the  compatibility of the laptop to the connected monitor.
