Anyone notice a increase of spammmers on the forum? The mods are doing a good job cleaning it up, but I wonder what it's from. Did BC get on someone's angry list?

Spam is cyclic for Bleeping Computer. But being quite popular within search results for all things malware and security related. We do get our fair share. Quite often when the moderator presence is at it's lowest is when it 'appears' the spam is more prevalent. But I can assure you that from an admin standpoint the amount of spam is under control.

Thanks for the reply. I never thought it wasn't under control, I was just curious if that was something causing the perceived influx in spam. It seemed someone was creating a username, spamming, getting banned, then creating another username that was different by one digit and spamming again. I know BC sometime gets DDoSed and I was wondering if the spam issue was related to that. In retrospect ,it was just my amateur perception. Thanks again. Ok to close/lock if you want.

I think that it is up to us ordinary members of BC to draw attention to possible spam. I have done so several times, and I am quite sure the moderators don't mind if it is an occasional false alarm.

Correct. There are more members than moderators. While we do make an effort to keep up with what is going on we simply cannot  be everywhere all the time.

We depend on members to let us know about spam (real or suspected) and anything else that they feel needs our attention.

That is when the REPORT function should be used.

We do appreciate those who take the short amount of time it takes to submit those reports.

With the staff to member ratio it is impossible for us to have eyes on every forum and every thread. We depend on the members to bring the staffs attention to any forum matter that needs attention, via the report system. Be it spam, unsafe links, questionable advice, etc. This is the fastest way to get the staffs attention on a matter. The staff will determine what if any steps need to be taken, based on the comments added to the report. If need be, the staff member handling the report may PM the member submitting report. They may ask for additional information or clarification on why the report was submitted.

We thank everyone who participates in this endeavor, to help making Bleeping Computer a leader in free computer assistance forum help.
