Problem:

  • PC reboots when playing video games for a while
  • No BSOD, even when I set it to not automatically reboot when the system crashes
  • Still reboots when not playing videos game, but takes longer to reboot
  • Pretty reproducible (I can play 5 games in Overwatch on High settings before a reboot happens, then the amount of games I can play decreases as I start up Overwatch again)

Observations:

  • The PC is properly cooled with 3 outtake, 1 intake
  • New parts, bought them half a year ago
  • Temperature for motherboard modules, CPU, and GPU are at a reasonable threshold
  • Balanced seems to slight delay the issue compared to the High Performance power option

If there is anything wrong with what I am doing, please point me in the right direction since this is my first post

Things I have done that have not fixed the issue:

  • Clean out PC
  • Defrag the HDD
  • Reseat CPU
  • Reseat GPU
  • Use multimeter to test PSU for constant voltage (within 5% range)
  • Use stock intel cooler
  • Run some system scan to check for OS integrity (forgot the name of the command, was through the terminal)
  • Replugged all of the cables for the entire system
  • Checked all of the drivers
  • Disable only usable audio drivers
  • Have a more aggressive GPU fan curve (I noticed before the VRM was getting hot, so I did this)
  • Update BIOS
  • Use jumper and reset battery to clear CMOS
  • Individually test RAM modules in all slots
  • Have a aggresive GPU fan curve
  • Sell soul to Satan for PC help

Things I have done that delay the issue:

  • Disable 1 CPU core out of the 4
  • Lower graphics settings for games I play

Please wait until it reboots again, then let's try looking at these 2 sets of reports:

1)  Please run this report collecting tool (even though you may not be experiencing BSOD's) so that we can provide a complete analysis: (from the pinned topic at the top of the forum)   http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/
FYI - I don't often use the Perfmon report, so if it doesn't work please just let me know.

2)  Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on the "Administrative Events" heading
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504

While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility:  http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Yea, doesn't wanna do anything for me. I have the Sysnative File Collection zip though.

Pretty much, I wanna narrow down what hardware is having issues because buying a bunch of replacement PC equipment to test my build is not an option for me.

That is what I have been using to monitor temps, they have been fine for my components.

In general I don't suggest buying something until I'm fairly certain that that is the cause.
Even then, I tend to hedge and will even ask you to purchase components from shops that will let you return them (for your money back).

One thing I do insist upon suggesting that you purchase is a legitimate copy of Windows.

Unfortunately it appears that the system has pirated software.
Please get a legitimate copy installed and we'll be glad to help.

Here's suggestions on how to ensure that your version is legitimate:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/genuine

Please be aware that we may not be able to fix it (as the hacks that were done to activate it will cause the OS to behave differently than we expect it to). If that's the case, our efforts to help may just waste your time. Secondly, the forum rules prohibit assisting with pirated software - so the topic would be closed if that is the case.

As a courtesy, I will offer an analysis of your issues using the reports you provided.
I will not answer any questions about the analysis until the system is made legitimate.
If you do make it legitimate, please submit a new set of reports for us to check.

Just FYI, sometimes the owner won't know about this.  So here's 2 scenarios that might ring a bell:
- if they had a "friend" help with the computer - and the "friend" installed a pirated copy.
- or they used a copy that they had from another OEM computer.  The OEM license is tied to the hardware that it came from - so you can't just use it on another system (that means that it's pirated).

And here's the analysis:

Many, many DCOM errors in the Admin logfile.

Let's see if this will help them:

Please attempt to fix your DCOM errors by doing this:

Go to Start, and then to Run (or the Win and R keys)
Type in "dcomcnfg" (without the quotes) and press Enter

In the Component Services window that opens, go to the left hand pane and double click on:
- Component Services, then on
- Computers, then on
- My Computer, then on
- DCOM Config
If it asks you to register any of the components, click Yes
This may happen several times if there are several unregistered components

Once you're finished, close the window and reboot the computer.
Check to see if the problems are fixed.
NOTE:  This is a generic "fix" for DCOM errors.

There are no repeating events just prior to the shutdowns (that I can see).
As such, this appears (at first glance) to be a hardware/compatibility/low-level driver issue.

Please start with these free hardware diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html

Your UEFI/BIOS (version F6) dates from 2015.  Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.  This is just in case there has been a more recent update.
FYI - W8 and W10 communicate more with the UEFI/BIOS than previous versions of Windows, so it's important to ensure that the UEFI/BIOS is kept up to date (and that outdated UEFI/BIOS' may be the cause of some compatibility issues).

Although you appear to have a reasonable number of Windows Update hotfixes for this version of your OS, please double check for any new Windows Updates.  It only takes one update to cause a problem, so it's essential that you have all of them.  The actual number is not important.  Rather it's important that you checked manually, installed any available updates, and didn't experience any errors when checking or updating.

These devices are disabled in Device Manager.

Headset Microphone (HyperX 7.1 Audio)    SWD\MMDEVAPI\{0.0.1.00000000}.{C6E24A20-8B98-428C-B4F1-61153EC45DA8}    This device is disabled.
NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM)    ROOT\UNNAMED_DEVICE\0000    This device is disabled.
Intel® Display Audio    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8086&DEV_2807&SUBSYS_80860101&REV_1000\4&1793E418&0&0001    This device is disabled.
Realtek High Definition Audio    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0900&SUBSYS_1458A0B2&REV_1000\4&E96C8A4&0&0201    This device is disabled.

Please re-enable these devices and update their software.  Then, if you'd like (after updating them), feel free to disable them again.

MSI Afterburner and Riva Tuner (along with EVGA Precision) are known to cause BSOD's in some Windows systems (it's driver is usually RTCore64.sys).  Please un-install them immediately!

Narrowed it down to the motherboard being faulty based on my findings. Thanks for all the help!
