Hi all,

My CPU memory is running off the charts for some reason... At least 87% and it's really causing my system to get bogged down and lag...  I went to the task manager and my web browser and system and compressed memory are the highest on the list...  Not sure what's available to me to get the CPU memory to a more reasonable level... Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Scott

I ran Speccy as you requested and after I clicked yes instead of giving me an option to connect to clipboard it said it couldn't connect to the server.  Any idea how to get around that?  Below is the minibox results.

If you follow the directions for creating the Snapshot (not just running Speccy)...just copy the URL for the Snapshot and post it in your next response.

Well...I don't really see anything that says that the system has a problem, looking at Windows, hardware, and Event Viewer data.

You referred to "my CPU memory".

Each of those...is a separate item and I don't believe it's abnormal at all for either to momentarily peg out at high percentages of us.

When are you doing these checks of Task Manager?  For how long does the "high usage" occur?  What applications are reflected as the user of the high percentages?

If you can take/post a screenshot of your Task Manager when you think high usage is occurring..that would help.

Thanks :).

OK I may have solved the problem.  I've been having trouble with my Netgear Wireless WiFi Adapter.  The connection was constantly getting dropped and Google Chrome kept giving me a Shockwave crashed error. I would have to either pull the adapter out or run the network diagnostic in order to reset it.  When this happened earlier today I noticed that when the adapter was disabled my computer lag was completely eliminated, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the Netgear software and so far there's been no lag, Chrome is stable, and the connection hasn't dropped.  Is it possible that the software went corrupt and bogged down my resources?

With software and Windows...basically with any file...corruption/damage is always possible...I consider it a constant.  We only notice it when it produces consequences which make the effect noticeable, either via Windows error message or some perception by user that the system is not functioning as it should.

The fact that uninstalling/reinstalling software...seems to have addressed the problem...is common and typically should be the first thing attempted by anyone if a given application seems to be having or causing problems.

Drivers and programs routinely have file corruption...many of these can be evaluated or are first revealed by looking at the Windows Event Viewer logs.

I've never looked at those logs before.  Do you have something I can read so I can get an understanding of how to access and analyze them?

FYI, I installed the Netgear software from the CD-ROM that was originally included in the packaging (obviously I couldn't access the internet without the adapter's software) and it ran an update check and found that there was a more current version of the software.  I declined the upgrade to see if the older version worked well (which seems to be working fine).  In your opinion do I have any reason to run the software update?

Thanks again for your help!

I can only tell you...I would not.  I never search for updated drivers if the device is working properly.  If drivers become damaged on my systems, I just reinstall from the original Drivers Disk.

Unless a newer version of a driver provides some capability that the older drivers did not...or addresses a known problem with previous driver versions...there is no need to update drivers.  A working driver is a good driver...if it becomes damaged, I replace it with an undamaged copy of the same driver.

Got it. Well thanks again, I've had no issues today since I reinstalled the software.
