Hi.

All was fine and then the spinning circle of death. After waiting for 10 minutes or so I shut down. Now it says Windows can't launch startup.

Any hope to save this laptop?

Thanks!

It says that I should launch startup repair. I did and after a few seconds it ends in a blank greyish screen.

Not sure how I upload a photo.

That is what it says. After a few seconds it automatically launches startup repair but then stalks on the greyish screen wit a few dim white streaks like beans of light .

keep tapping F8 when you turn the computer on, continue to tap F8 till you reach the screen with white writing,

select "last known good configuration"

I selected last known good configuration. Next message was Windows failed to start. It launched startup recovery and stalled on the grey screen.

tap F8 again and get to the white writing screen,

select command prompt,

type "chkdsk c: /f /r" (without quotes)

if that doesnt work.....

you are going to have to boot from a windows 7 install CD and repair the installation,

if you dont have one you can download an ISO of windows 7 and create a bootable windows 7 CD or USB using a program like rufus

I select command but it then launches into startup repair and ends at the grey screen

I'll have to find a cd?

Had the laptop examined. The hard drive was dead. Had to install a new one.

Thanks for your help!
