I started getting "abnormal termination/ Microsoft C++ Runtime Errors" in a certain app. I ran the Kaspersky Online scan, and it said I was infected with the virus, Trojan-Clicker.HTML.Agent.a.

Here is my HJ log.

Thanks in advance.

P.S.- Also-- is there any reason why an attempt to scan at Trend Micro just stalls? This never used to happen with the previou version.

Hello webfreebies and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I see no signs of viruses ormalware in the log.

The Trojan-Clicker.HTML.Agent.a virus is a virus that normally resides in the IE temporary files folder. It will not show up in a HijackThislog.

There are 2 things you should do. Clean the temporary folders and install an anti-virus program.

Download and install ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser
  • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser
  • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

Here are 2 free anti-virus programs that are available for personal use (I use these on various machines and they are both good):Choose 1 andinstall it, update it and then runa full system scan. Let it delete or quarantine anything it finds.

Cheers.

Thank you very much for your help. I couldn't download and run ATF Cleaner as I only have Windows 98. However, I have downloaded Avast! Antivirus.

Thanks once again.

Hi webfreebies. Oh silly me. Another good temp folder cleaner that does work on Win98 is Cleanup.

Go here and download CleanUp!.

Open CleanUp! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click Options...
Move the arrow down to Custom CleanUp!
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files (if present)
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
Let it do it's thing. At the end, it may ask you to reboot/log-off, click Yes.
Close CleanUp.

I will now close this topic. If you have any new malware questions in the future please start a new topic.

Cheers and Happy Computing
