Hi

Hello

The CBS log is rather...small.

can really only  use safe mode - and even thats painful.....thanks for your help.....

Yes, in the CBS log, it said that you were booted into Safe Mode

What happens when you try to boot normally? Do you get an error message? Or does it hang when booting?

PS- I will be looking into your Event Viewer log soon

Looking at your Event Viewer log, you have a lot of errors related to Windows Indexing Service. Lets rebuild its index: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/17880-index-rebuild.html Don't worry about the instructions for Windows 7. They are the same for Windows 10

It explains the problems you are having

Let's zip up the COMPONENTS hive, and see if we can repair it:

SFCFix Fix

This fix is very specific for roscoep54's computer. Trying this fix on your own computer might damage your computer. If you are after assistance, create a new thread, and you will be assisted shortly.

Download SFCFix (by niemiro) and move the executable on your Desktop.

Download the attached Attached File  SFCFixScript.txt   217bytes   3 downloads and move the archive to your Desktop

Note: Make sure that the file is named SFCFixScript.txt, do not rename it.

Save any work you have open, and close every programs

Drag the SFCFixScript.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it

1p8eDnI.gif

SFCFix will launch, let it complete

Once done, a file will appear on your Desktop, called SFCFix.txt

Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply

After the script is complete, it will create COMPONENTS.zip on your Desktop. Please upload it to a cloud service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Ok, I think its mostly fixed.  I had been working with the support team from Emsisoft before I had to do system restore and everything was hanging up over the weekend.  Kevin suggested that I run tweakings windows repair.  I tried it yesterday, and it failed.  I tried it this morning after I sent you the cbs.log and the program completed!!  Its running MUCH better now.  It seems like there's a bit of lag between programs and quite a lag on reboot.  Is there anything else we can look at??

I so appreciate all your help!

Unfortunately, tweaking.com Windows Repair All in One can not repair the COMPONENTS hive. Although a corrupt COMPONENTS hvie won't cause slow down, it prevents things like updates from completing, etc

Could you run the script and post the link to the COMPONENTS.zip:
